Brick Council to Reorganize Tuesday

No change in control of the governing body

The Brick Township Council will reorganize Tuesday night with all of the same members as 2012.

As no members' terms expired at the end of 2012, there were no council elections held in November, meaning the same seven members of the governing body will return for another year.

Control of the council will remain in the hands of the Democrats, who have a 4-3 majority over Republicans.

The council will begin the meeting with an invocation, then elect a president and vice president for 2013.

In 2012, Councilman John Ducey served as president and Councilman Bob Moore served as vice president.

A member of the council will also be appointed to serve on the planning board for the year. In 2012, Councilwoman Susan Lydecker served in this role.

The first meeting of 2013 will include a number of required administrative votes related to the reorganization, and a limited number of regular business items, including two measure related to the cleanup of Superstorm Sandy.

Does it really matter. Same people, same games, just new people playing bossman.

Its a shame that there wasn't an election so we could have made some changes in the council..which are so needed. !!

Did the Mayor resign from the TRMUA like he said he would so he can run for reelection?
BW January 8, 2013 at 01:27 pm
Why would he? He has a pretty good gig going on now. I am sure the powers that be will change the rules or the law, making it perfectly legal for him to keep all 3 jobs.

save the electricity and cancel the meeting!!!
Art Sholty January 8, 2013 at 01:40 pm
Will Moore accept the nomination as Council President even though he might be shy of gaining overtime on his regular job? How about the other two imposters, will they still keep the health benefits that they campaigned against? Tell us, Toth is still in their corner and he will continue grabbing all th at he can swipe from us. Abstention has gained popularity and others will soon join on the "stuff team."

Well we all know who is wearing the pants in the Fozman family. Another one has just bitten the dust.
Glenn January 8, 2013 at 02:27 pm
Art, you must really enjoy reading your comments. I for one do not.
BW January 8, 2013 at 03:24 pm
Ok let me start by saying calling names makes you look like a fool, you are starting to sound like Art. Are you posting from Fla too? A point can be made without pulling out the Obama book on name calling and blame.
Are they liars? Yes they are, they all are. Every elected official in Brick, Ocean County and the state are liars. That is a requirement of getting elected you must be an accomplished liar. It doesnt matter which party, which sex, or what town they are from, what religion they practice, they are ALL liars.
Slippery Slope January 8, 2013 at 03:39 pm
@BW.... you really enjoy defending the democrats and denigrating the republicans. I on the other hand ridicule and scorn both of the coruupt parties.
Not all of the politicians are liars. the ones who speak the truth rarely get elected and the honest politicians are probably about 5% of the elected officials. Of the 5% of honest elected officials in office, none of them are in the democratic party. ZERO, Zilch, None
BW January 8, 2013 at 03:47 pm
Slippery maybe you should read my posts again, my friend. I defend no one, as both parties are not worth anything. I am simply proving to those who choose to bash one party, that the other is just as bad.
They are all liars no matter what party they choose to sleep with. I am in favor of changing our form of govt to non partisan and using the ward system. I am in favor of eliminating pay and benefits for council members, so I dont get where you get that I protect the D and bash the R. I am an equal opportunity basher when it comes to politicians in Brick Ocean County and the state. Hope this has cleared things up for you.

Just my 2 cents worth on this subject.
For those who commented that this council is the same as the prior ones, my view is different. This council has not given out 50k or 80k raises to anyone, let alone political cronies, as the prior council did. Council Pres. Ducey has not mistreated members of the public the way former pres Deluca did. We did not have a tax increase last budget (although, admittedly, we did not have a tax cut, either). And Deluca & Acropolis lying about giving out the 50k raise to Bellu is, to me, far worse than the benefits taking issue being discussed. I am sorry, everyone, but I can't get upset over a politician who takes benefits that they are entitled to even though they said they weren't going to. Especially when the benefits affect their families health and lives. Things change, financial situations change. What makes me angry is when I see my tax money spent on giving raises that are larger than what most people make in a years salary given to politically connected people (Bellu & Pezzara) and executive level jobs given to someone politically connected who has no experience doing that job (Sangiovanni: Brick School Transportation Director). You can disagree with me if you want, but I hope that people will at least think about what I said instead of just attacking.
knarfie January 8, 2013 at 08:19 pm
Sam, You are correct. These new people, although leaving much to be desired, don't come close to being as bad as the jobs given to Matthews, Acropolis, Bellu Sangiovani, Brando, DeLuca, (the list goes on and on) with no qualifications.

Vera,Vera...let me go..
Need a Change January 9, 2013 at 01:07 am
Knarfie, Give them time there changing as time goes by..Like taking benifits that they ran saying they wouldn't ...Here we go hold on for the ride till next elections....They all change in time..

I agree with quiet time. Def consideration of my neighbors if they have a sleeping baby or back yardRead More party. We surely try to respect that.
KC June 19, 2013 at 04:55 pm
Funny Lelenore, I don't see that there are very many rules and regs. If it were elected it would notRead More be an infringement. I respect your opinion, but still feel six day time hours out of an entire week is not a lot to ask. If nothing else, would love to see a ban on gas leaf blowers. There are towns that have that in place. The mowers are not really IMHO that intrusive, but the leaf blowers and concrete cutters are another matter. Trouble is, people herebouts think they are in Montana and often are as you say, on 100 by 100 lots. What is the point of having all of this grass and trees if one never has the serenity about them to enjoy it? I think the ill effects of suburban noise pollution on health - blood pressure, aggression, release of the chemical cortisol etc. are well documented. Over a twenty five year period in time in Brick I find that this has become a real quality of life issue. At one point in my life I resided in mid town Manhattan and ya know what - being high up IT WAS QUIETER! Jackson? I don't think so. Doesn't Brielle have such an elective ordinance?

It was suppose to move next to the next liquor store behind Harbor Freight on Hooper. But,they neverRead More did.And when we pass it,it looks like they aren't even working on that side of the building. We miss that place for their deli dept.

They are waiting for the new store to get dirty and smell. It needs to be run down a little bit forRead More it to function properly.
can't say who June 19, 2013 at 05:44 pm
Right next to the liquor store. The reason it is taking so long is the politics of Acropolis andRead More Pat Botazzi. They kept the liquor store from opening for TWO years by controlling the planning board and caused the store owner HUNDREDS OF THOUSANS OF DOLLARES WITH COURT FIGHTS. Acropolis LOST THE COURT FIGHTS BUT CONTINUES TO BEAT UP ON THE LIQUOR STORE'S NEW TENNANT AS RETROBUTION Now Acropolis can play the code enforcement game and still get his happiness as a bigoted soon to be ex mayor and not a nice man. How about denying this. It is going to be a great store with the same owners and great food IF Acropolis doesn't have them go bankrupt due to him before they even open.
