Brick Approves Liquor License Renewals

One license not renewed pending more information

Brick's township council renewed 40 of 41 liquor licenses at its meeting earlier this week.

The licenses include consumption licenses, distribution licenses and club licenses. Consumption licenses include restaurants and bars, distribution licenses and held by liquor stores, and club licenses allow nonprofit organization, such as the VFW and Knights of Columbus, to sell alcohol at their properties.

Some licenses are restricted and some are not. In recent years, officials said, the township has attached conditions to licenses requiring minimum restaurant seating in order to attract restaurants with bars - rather than bars alone - to town.

For example, Applebees is restricted to maintain at least 100 family restaurant style seats in its Brick location to comply with its license.

Some other establishments, such as Mansion, located in Brick Plaza, and Used to Be's, located on Route 35 in the barrier island section, have conditions to provide security on certain nights or at certain times of the year, said Township Clerk Lynnette Iannarone.

The council narrowly voted to hold up the license renewal of TGI Friday's because a resolution allowing the renewal did not include the restrictions that were supposed to be included.

The council will hold the license - which is up July 1 - until the next meeting, when presumably the correct restrictions will be listed in a resolution.

Councilman Domenick Brando said the TGI Friday's location may have additional restrictions on its license since it hosts outdoor events.
