Bond Ordinances Up For Approval Tonight

The township council could approve a number of bond measures

No money will be spent, but Brick's township council could authorize a number of bond measures at Tuesday night's meeting that could fund future capital projects in town.

The council could vote, on second reading, to authorize approximately $10.6 million that would go toward projects that range from the completion of the Traders Cove site, to new garbage trucks, to playground equipment, to the rehabilitation of the township's , among other projects.

The passage of the authorizations on first reading prompted a protest by a number of the recently elected Democratic council members who will take their seats in January. John Ducey, Bob Moore and Jim Fozman all spoke out against authorizing the bond measures, saying the decision should be left up to the next council. Ducey penned a of Brick Patch last week expressing his views on the subject.

But current council members said at the Nov. 22 meeting that the business of the town must go on. Business Administrator Scott Pezarras said the ordinance only authorizes future bond measures, all of which would have to be approved by the future council. Simply authorizing the funding does not mean any money is actually borrowed, nor does it mean the township will incur costs, he said.

"All of that would have to be done afterwards with the new sitting council," said Pezarras.
