Appointments Up for Vote at Council Meeting

Township council meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

The township council is set to vote on a number of professional appointments at its meeting Tuesday night.

Under Brick's form of government, the mayor is charged with making professional appointments with the advice and consent of the governing body. The governing body's consent is , however, since the council's refusal to do so would leave current township professionals in place. That situation is known as a holdover appointment, according to Township Attorney Jean Cipriani.

Cipriani's firm, Gilmore and Monahan, is one of the appointments up for a vote. A number of law firms, many with alignments to the two major political parties, are up for approval to be included in a larger legal services pool. Gilmore and Monahan is headed by Ocean County Republican chairman George Gilmore.

Other appointments up for approval include John J. Jackson, III for public defender; Steven Zabarsky for municipal prosecutor; and Birdsall Engineering as township engineer.

The township council will also vote on attorney pools for the positions of alternate prosecutor and public defender, as well as an engineering and consulting pool.
