A Noisy Weekend At Joint Base McGuire-Fort Dix-Lakehurst

Be prepared for more booms and thuds than normal this weekend from Joint Base Mcguire-Fort Dix-Lakehurst.

From the Joint Base press office:

The G Battery of the 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment and the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment will conduct artillery and mortar firing training here, May 16-18.

In addition, Marine air gunnery training will take place on May 17, as part of a combined training effort with both units.

Firing is scheduled to cease at 11 p.m. each day.

This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America's fighting force. As a result of this important training, some residents may hear more noise than usual coming from our ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.

The joint base works very hard to ensure training has minimal impact on its local communities. JB MDL is grateful for the overwhelming support it has received throughout the years. Base leadership values this relationship and will continue to work hard to ensure we remain good neighbors.

I love civilians complaining about what it takes to keep America safe. Also like how the Patch failed to mention the 9/11 Memorial on Thursday in New York. Bloomberg officiated a very nice remembrance. God forbid anyone was disturbed by such matters.

This training is taking place on the Fort Dix section of JB-MDL. Fort Dix been there since 1917, people moved into this neck of the woods at a later date knowing or not. What do you think they do on a military Fort that trains our soldiers??? They don't have this training every weekend (last weekend was open house to the public)...if you can't put up with a few weekend training dates for our brave soldiers...MOVE!

I do not mind the noise, but could they start a little later, say 9:00am instead of 7:30am on Saturday morning, plus why not tell us in advanced, instead of waking us up.....

Now that I get. Here is their website---http://www.jointbasemdl.af.mil/jointbaseantiterrorismoffice.asp---most sites usually have a noise report, an advance schedule of practice training that will create noise to affect surrounding areas. Did not peruse this one and see it, but there is always a number for citizen questions to see if they post one, perhaps on their facebook page.
