Two cars collide head-on

A Freehold woman sufferred a serious head injury after colliding head-on with a Brick woman on Sally Ike Road Saturday morning.

Police say Sifaya A. Wisdom-Rivera, 28, was driving northbound on Sally Ike Road when she lost control of her 2008 Nissan Sentra and began travelling sideways across the center roadway lines into the oncoming lane.

The force of the impact caused the Nissan to leave the west side of the roadway and strike chain link fencing which surrounds the former French’s landfill construction area, according to Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian.

Wisdom-Rivera sufferred a severe head trauma and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where she remains in critical but stable condition, police said. Gross and a passenger in her Jeep were not injured.

The Herbertsville Fire Company was called to the scene for gasoline leaking from one of the vehicles involved, Bedrosian said.

Brick Township Police Department EMS, as well as MONOC paramedics responded to the scene, as well as police officers Fred Angersbach, Brendan Barnes, John Turrin and Austin Kenny. Detective Peter Thomas assisted at the scene, as well. Officer Scott Dierking and Bedrosian, of the traffic safety unit, are investigating the crash, although sleet and icy road conditions may have been a contributing factor, Bedrosian said.

Traffic was detoured around the crash scene for approximately two and a half hours. Any witnesses to the crash are being asked to contact the Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
