Water Rescue Drill Planned for Metedeconk River Tonight

Drill will take place off Windward Beach

Don't be alarmed if you see a Coast Guard helicopter hovering above Brick tonight, along with a slew of rescue boats in the Metedeconk.

Brick Township's Laurelton Fire Company will be leading a water rescue drill in the river, off , starting Thursday around 7 p.m., said District 2 Fire Commissioner Joseph J. Pawlowicz, Jr.

Brick Township firefighters and EMTs will be joined by other local agencies as well as the U.S. Coast Guard in the drill, which will simulate a boat accident in which victims must be rescued from the water.

A Coast Guard helicopter is set to land at Windward Beach around 6 p.m., fire officials said, with the drill beginning close to 7 p.m.
