Brick Police are still investigating a Saturday evening accident that sent two teens to a trauma center.
Police responded to the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Chambers Bridge Road about 5:15 p.m. Saturday after two pedestrians were struck while trying to cross the intersection, Sgt. Henry Drew said.
At that time, four male juveniles were crossing the intersection from the east side, however the traffic light turned green before they were able to cross.
"While the juveniles were crossing the intersection, the light turned green for southbound traffic," said Drew, in a statement.
Two of the four juveniles were struck by Nancy Rothenberg, of Brick, who was driving a 2006 Mercury Mariner and travelling southbound in the right lane.
Drew said Rothenberg attempted to stop her vehicle, but was unable to do so before striking the two teens, whose names were not released.
One 15-year-old male from Brick was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with head trauma and internal injuries, where he remains in critical condition. A 14-year-old male from Brick was also transported to Jersey Shore, with internal and facial injuries, where he remains for observation.
The accident is being investigated by Ptl. Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact Lampiasi at 732-262-1140.
Rt.70 = STATE ROAD and Chambersbridge Rd.= COUNTY ROAD, Brick has no control. how do you relate a red light camera to pedestrian traffic? " why are there no pedestrian crossing signs or pedestrian crosswalks painted on the road at the intersection of Hwy 70 and Chambersbridge? is it because the town and the red light company want to make as much money as possible off us"
What shocks me is all of you saying that it was the children's faults. While I did spend the better part of the last 2 years living in Ohio I very clearly remember a law being passed before I moved stating that we drivers had to come to a complete stop once a pedestrian stepped off the curb and could not move forward until they were safely on the other side. I still follow this law as does everyone I know. Therefore speeding, running a light, striking MINOR pedestrians what have you this driver did in fact break the law and it was all caught in camera.
