Two Sought by Police in Herbertsville Arson

Two vehicles burned, police say

Police are investigating a vehicle arson in the township's Herbertsville section.

According to Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard, a resident of Maidenstone Drive reported to police that in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 7 he heard a loud bang outside of his residence. When he went outside, the resident found his two vehicles, which were parked in his driveway, on fire.

The Herbertsville Fire Company put out the blaze, and police also responded to the scene. No one was injured, Reinhard said.

Police were able to obtain video surveillance from a neighbor which, according to Reinhard, revealed two subjects exiting a light colored four door vehicle. The people then poured some type of an accelerant on or near the vehicles and ignited them.

The Brick Township Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the two people responsible for the vehicle fires. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Detective Gregory Mullarkey at 732-262-1120.

Thank you, Auxiliary! Naturally, being a part of PHFC, you are already proactive and have have a sense of awareness. It's just that with our hotspots like Maple Leaf on one side, Waterside on the other, and Herbertsville so close that there isn't a higher sense of vigilance in general. Granted, I'm not saying that everyone in those areas are criminals and there aren't vigilant people in those hotspots. I just think that maybe we all could do a better job getting to know our neighbors, our neighborhood, and keeping an eye on each other and our properties. I will be the first to admit that not too many in my neighborhood know each other personally. Why? Everyone is so absorbed in their own worlds and lives that they really haven't thought about crime...although a "hotspot" is minutes away by car. Until people start waking up, crime will just grow. We can't keep blaming the police for crime and EMS/FD for nor responding faster...not unless you want taxes to go REALLY high, right? Get neighborhood watches going! I did.

None of youbusiness: I hear you. In the daytime, most of us are at work. We can't help to leave our homes. That's just the way it is. My comment was mostly for people that don't care in general (until something happens to them) and yet don't want to do anything to make their homes and neighborhoods safer. That's when people have to stop and think.
angela January 12, 2013 at 05:03 PM
Wow, is all I can say. Neighborhood watch is in a effect an should always be in effect. No matter if the neighbor's like each other or not.My parents live in this section an it frights me. My father is disabled an during the time of sandy no one not a single soul had offered to help my father other than people in my immediate area offered help. Even when it snows. Its like that the one neighbor moved that helped my folks. But this This saddens me greatly an makes me disgusted.

Immediate family*
angela January 12, 2013 at 05:12 PM
The one other neighboor helped as well too. But really.. are we all that into our selfs... I hope whom ever had done this goes to jail.
Bricktown Lew January 12, 2013 at 05:37 PM
Angela, I'm sorry to hear that about your parents. I also had a disabled father and aging/disabled family is always a concern. It's really sad and shows how cold some people can be today. Now, if I understood correctly, there is an neighborhood watch in place already? Well, don't let that stump you. Unfortunately, some people will just want watches just for a few tips and want a sign on a street and everything else remains the same. That's no watch. That's not the concerning part. The part that concerns me is that sometimes people think criminals will get fooled by it. One can have tons of signs up and they be worthless. No watch activity = the same as nothing at all...
angela January 12, 2013 at 05:46 PM
Ubforantly I think that was the case an still is.

I have the best neighbors - we all watch out for each other. I'm so lucky!!!
WMS826 January 12, 2013 at 10:39 PM
I pay for this in taxes. In other states they pay less, and get less, we pay more and get less. How about we all show up to a council meeting or Freeholder meeting instead and out pressure to stop the waste and gives us more cops with the savings or less of a bill. How about we all support the cops and put pressure on Democrat judges who tie their hands and then we can all stay home at night with our families where we belong. Not too interested in being NJ's Neighborhood Vigilante AKA Zimmerman test case.
Bricktown Lew January 12, 2013 at 11:41 PM
WMS826, Hey, we all pay taxes...and things and always be more expensive and get less. We're in NJ. I came from an area where we were paying twice as much taxes and getting even less than here. Those are the breaks of living in New Jersey. That's why people move away. As for the neighborhood watches, I think some people don't understand the concept...like what happened with Zimmerman. Neighborhood watches are to run on strict codes. It's supposed to be 1) Observe any suspicious activity and 2) Report suspicious activity to police. One is not supposed to confront any suspicious person(s) and should not be armed with guns of all things! Criminal activity thrives on privacy and people not around and not caring. Criminals do not like company, an audience, and do not like to be watched. Simple as that. No guns needed.

Is it just me or has Brick turned into a sewer the last 10-12 years???
P B January 13, 2013 at 01:02 AM
...or we can light the scumbags cars on fire!! Then they don't have rides to commit crimes!! We have a scumbag who lives up the road. Stealing from neighbors other scumbag dudes always hanging out at his house. I had a Memorial Day BBQ for friends and family. Someone came up to me at the party and said there were 3 shady guys lurking by the cars and harassing people as they walk by. I calmly walked out front went up to the lead scumbag. Punched him in the nose and told him if I ever saw him again I would put him in the hospital. Problem solved nobody got hurt. Cars all ok. Neighbors happy I taught the druggy a lesson. The dude won't even look in my direction. MORAL OF THE STORY- time to get tough with these losers. You folks need to learn how to hand out an ass whoopin when it's needed. Violence doesn't solve everything, but sometimes it does for the right cause.
Anthony January 13, 2013 at 01:40 AM
Here's an idea, RELEASE THE CAMERA FOOTAGE. Telling us about it does nothing. Maybe somebody will recognize the vehicle, or the suspects. We see pictures of bank robbery suspects, so if there's footage of these two idiots, why can't we see it?
WMS826 January 13, 2013 at 03:47 AM
Bricktown Lew, You are a politicians dream. You accept your fate and submit to them. There should be more lambs like you out there for Sweeney and Christie to fleece. I pay for polic protection. We had that here once in the late 90's Remove the cameras from the police cars and push these guys to get back to work. I care not about steping on a few toes or the feelings of minorities. Just clean up things and become an intimidating force like other towns are.
Bricktown Lew January 13, 2013 at 04:32 AM
WMS826, I'm a politicians dream? Really? Nah, I don't I am. I don't vote and don't take part in elections or anything political. I'm politically neutral. I just obey the laws of the land. To me, it doesn't really make much of a difference who's in office because simply put imperfect man will never solve mankind's problems...and that is even written in the bible.
letsallgetalong January 13, 2013 at 01:40 PM
Ha Ha, He's back with another opinion.
RCL67 January 13, 2013 at 01:51 PM
Yes it has Jose. I can not believe how bad the Herbertsville section has become. I live here ( for the time being ) and have witnessed the downfall. Between the gangs and the drugs, it is only going to get worse. I have seen drug deals go down right in front of my house! Yes, it is everywhere, but I only live here......
Bricktown Lew January 13, 2013 at 03:36 PM
Letsallgetalong- who's back?
Tapuout January 14, 2013 at 02:04 AM
Yeah ok wms let's do that like the state police did for years and caused all types of case law that binds officers hands you are a moron like chief wahoo
WMS826 January 14, 2013 at 02:42 AM
Bricktown Lew you are even more a politicians dream. Since you do not vote then they could care less about you and you are no threat to them. What don't you see here. You have no place at the table then, your opinions should be deleted and you be silent. If you fail to vote then you are even more of a lamb lead to slaughter.
WMS826 January 14, 2013 at 02:44 AM
You are correct, that is what is causing all this. Liberals who have shut down the cops. Put pressure on people, then you become a special interest group like battered women and MADD. These laws were all changed in thoer favor because they were organized and got the politicians attention.
WMS826 January 14, 2013 at 02:44 AM
You must be a lazy scared cop like the Hollowman.
dsureknock January 14, 2013 at 05:00 AM
As long as brick continues to open up more section 8, well over our limit, were doomed, as the undesirables get pushed out of lakewood our neighbors are welcoming them with open arms, noone can deny without mapleleaf and waterside .brick would be a beautiful town
Bricktown Lew January 14, 2013 at 04:01 PM
WMS, Shouldn't it be the ones that vote that are the politician's dream? The ones that look to elect these people in office? After all, those people are the politician's dreams and the ones they count. Aren't they also the ones that cheer or bicker that their "problems are solved...no they are not" candidate won or lost? When it comes down to it, win or lose, we still have to follow the laws of the land, right? I pay all my taxes and I obey the laws. Do ALL voters do that to a tee??? If so, why are the courthouses and jails packed? So if you are still upset that your candidate for president lost, don't take it out on me. That's politics. My actions played nothing with that. I pride myself on being religious and politically neutral. Do you really think that you are the first one to be upset at my personal stand? No, but you know what? I pay ALL my taxes, I obey the laws, and I have respect for our national symbol. I'm no flag burner or protestor. I simply follow for example what is stated in Matthew 11:17 by paying back Caesar's things to Caesar (taxes and laws) and in John 17:16 by being no part of this world (politically) just like the way Jesus was politically neutral. Why shouldn't I have a say in the topic of the article? We were talking about crime in our town, right?
Bricktown Lew January 14, 2013 at 04:07 PM
Oh, and by the way, just for the record, I've been an emergency services volunteer since 2002...no matter who was in office in the town, country, state, and country. I am also the neighborhood watch coordinator for my area. Why don't I have "a place at the table" and shouldn't have a say in articles?
Bricktown Lew January 14, 2013 at 04:09 PM
That's why we all have to play a part an keep an eye out on our own homes and neighborhoods.
WMS826 January 15, 2013 at 02:47 AM
Bricktown Lew...please..be more of a part of the process. Otherwise you will just be a follower of what ever those elected make you do. have a say in your fate. By saying yo are neutral and a citizen of the world makes you look weak, and docile. I doubt there are any true supporters of you in this lifestyle here on this board. You are a representitive of who volunteers, that is for sure. We the people with exception of Lew vote for these people to look after certain affairs for the greater good of the people. Lew is happy to just let them take care of themselves and they be told where to stand. I would implore any young people not to follow Lews example. Things will improve here oncethese bungalows are crushed and things rebuilt to todays codes and standards. It might even bring in a higher class of people perhaps. I do agree that the back door lakewood deal the men in black are giving us, it is a major problem. Perhaps we could ask for a little zoning and code enforcement or maybe just tip our hats to our masters as would do Lew, and say thank you for dumping on me as I am helpless in your power.
Bricktown Lew January 15, 2013 at 02:26 PM
Wow, WMS, your logic is amazingly pathetic. I think you are officially ready for political office!! I couldn't stop laughing after reading your last post! It was classic! It was hillarious that you said that by me not being a part of the political process that I am a follower?? Really?? So by NOT doing what millions do would make me a follower and weak?? Really?? So taking the same stand that others have taken in the past up to today that lead to them being executed, tortured, imprisoned, and inmates in concentration camps, you call me weak?? Really?? Because I refuse to jump on the political "bandwagon," I'm weak and a follower?? In World War II Germany, the people who were not Jewish, but German, that refused to fight for Hitler's army and were placed in concentration camps and executed were also " weak" because they refused to take part in the political machine?? Gotcha! Just save it. I'm not expecting anyone else to side on this site. It's not a popular view and takes more courage than just doing someone everyone else is doing. You, are not going to change me with your childish taunting. We're done here...
matt January 16, 2013 at 03:15 PM
Ur all dumb.... dude prolly has insurance scam goin on or owed the wrong people. They didn't pull his damn name out a hat and go blaze his cars. As for our police, it don't matter who comes in and teaches them whatever because they are all either young n dumb or old and dumb. And we should MIND OUR OWN OWN OWN business and this stuff wouldn't happen. None of u belong on a watch or a politicians chair if u can't figure out y two cars were burned worry about who's stealing ur news paper that's a little easier. Stop people watching. Do dirt get dirt.
