Two Brick Residents Arrested for Armed Robbery

Brick Police have arrested two township residents for the early Friday morning armed robbery of a Sawmill Road resident, police said.

Ansel Applewhite, 19, of Sawmill Road, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, of Primrose Lane, were arrested Friday evening for robbing a Sawmill Road resident at gunpoint, according to Capt. John Rein. Police say the pair got away with $140 in the robbery, which occurred at 2 a.m. Friday morning.

A victim, whose name was not released, was assaulted during the incident and was treated and released from Ocean Medical Center. The robbers fled the scene after the assault, Rein said.

The pair was arrested when, around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Patrolmen Patrick Mulcahey, John Pawlowicz and Brian Ulman responded to Sawmill Road for a suspicious persons call. There they encountered Applewhite and the juvenile who were found in possession of drugs and handgun ammunition, Rein said. Brick Police detectives and members of the Brick Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) executed search warrants late Friday evening at the residences of the two suspects. After the search, robbery charges were added to the original drug and ammunition charges.

Police have not yet found the handgun used in the robbery, Rein said.

Applewhite was transported to the Ocean Count Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. The juvenile was remanded to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention facility.

Brick Police detectives Robert Shepherd and Gregory Mullarkey are leading the investigation.
