Two Boats Hit Marsh off Kettle Creek in Brick Thursday Night

State police, Brick fire boats take nine passengers between the two boats home

Two boats struck a marsh and ran aground in Kettle Creek after Thursday night's fireworks in Brick Township, police said.

There were no injuries in the incident, which occurred off Lake Point Drive in the creek, said New Jersey State Police Capt. Stephen Jones. One of the boats was a 25-foot vessel with seven people on board and the other was a 26-foot vessel with two people on board.

"Due to darkness and operator error, both boats ran aground," said Jones.

Jones said there was no indication of alcohol being involved in the incident.

A commercial towing company came to tow the boats out of the mash, Jones said. Troopers on a state police boat brought the passengers from one of the boats back to shore while the Brick fire boat transported the passengers on the other.
