Suspected Air Conditioner Thieves Nabbed in Brick DWI Checkpoint

Pair targeted six business, police say

Two men suspected of robbing air conditioning equipment from six locations in Lacey Township were arrested after a Lacey officer working at a sobriety checkpoint in Brick Township noticed the suspects' vehicle driving through.

William McMenamin, 20, and Daniel Disbro, 21, both of Waretown, are now lodged in the Ocean County Jail following their arrest.

Officer Dimitri Tsarnas was serving as a Drug Recognition Expert at the checkpoint in Brick early Saturday morning when he spotted a silver Honda Civic similar to the one caught on surveillance video driving away from scene of an air conditioning condenser robbery earlier in the week, police said in a statement.

When he looked in the vehicle, three air conditioning condenser units were in the back seat, the statement said, consistent with those stolen from the Lacey Business Park just several hours prior.

Lacey detectives went to Brick and continued the investigation, police said, eventually determining that the suspects were responsible for the thefts earlier in the week.

Both men were charged with four counts of theft and six counts of criminal mischief. Each was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $75,000 bail.

Police also seized Disbro's vehicle for being used to further a crime.

Police said the value of the items stolen is estimated at about $10,000.

The following Lacey Township businesses were targeted by the suspects in this past week:

  • Thomas Morrissey, CPA, Lacey Road, Forked River
  • Best Impressions Dental, Lacey Road, Forked River
  • Lacey Moose, Route 9, Forked River
  • Joseph Roberts, Inc., Old Shore Road, Forked River
  • Plastics for Chemicals, Old Shore Road, Forked River
  • Ace Dewatering, Old Shore Road, Forked River
