Some Brick Residents' Power Restored; Traffic Woes Continue

Number of residents out down from peak

Jersey Central Power and Light said Thursday afternoon that 28,159 customers were still out of power in Brick.

That number is down from its height of more than 34,000 customers out of power Tuesday night, just after the storm struck.

The company did not say which neighborhoods have been restored. Anecdotal reports from residents indicate that restoration has occurred sporadically around town. Some customers were restored last night after the company powered up portions of town intentionally taken down so high voltage lines could be repaired.

Meanwhile, the power outages continued to cause traffic headaches all around Brick.

Large delays could be seen on Route 70 in both directions – especially east of Route 88 – as New Jersey state troopers directed traffic at some intersections where the lights were out. The ability to cross other intersections of the state highway were being physically blocked by school buses placed there after some drivers ignored roadblocks indicated by cones and barricades.

The major intersection of Route 70 and Brick Boulevard was still out of power by 1:30 p.m., though it was not being blocked. Traffic was moving freely through the area.

The township was still urging people to keep off the roads.

I live off of Chambers and still have no power. I want to know why there is still a tree and light pole along Chambers still hanging by the power lines. Could this be the reason we have no power yet?!? For 3 days its been like this. Its a hazard to people driving by yet there are only cones
directing traffic away from them. How much longer till they are fixed?!

These may be destroyed areas that they are intentionally not turning on in addition to those who will be restored shortly.

No power at my house either up by the Manasquan River. Lots of trees on the bluff came down onto the lines. No power since Monday. But we're still trying to get as much info as we can out to everyone else in town!!

I would assume they do the easy jobs first after ther priority ones such as hospitals and evac centers. Then sped hours replacing poles which could be time consuming.
The more people they restore soonest the better. This helps them and lowers the numbers they report to the press and govenor.

I also don't have power, however, it could be worse. I am reminded of that every chance I am able to get out on FB, and see the news. So, my discomfort of grilling up food outdoors, or making coffee by camp percolator, is nothing. Grateful to still have my home and friends who are helping with hot water and power.

My neighbor on my right and left have power, in Herbertsville area on Cleveland Ct. The power teams are hard at it, we pray for their safety as well.

Pay attention to carbon monoxide levels if you're still burning wood and using gas stoves for heat.

Me neither. Have driven around and still no JCP&L trucks.
James November 4, 2012 at 05:20 pm
Would love to see at least one, just one JCP&L truck in the Drum Point/Hooper Ave area. May not get electricity till week of Nov. 12. I hope I am wrong.

I know some of Brick has power, but as of tonight, the apartments on Rt 70 (Kentwood and Victorian) still are down. Very cold night. If you know someone living there, and you have heat, please consider picking them up....it is really awful....
