Some Brick Residents' Power Restored; Traffic Woes Continue

Number of residents out down from peak

Jersey Central Power and Light said Thursday afternoon that 28,159 customers were still out of power in Brick.

That number is down from its height of more than 34,000 customers out of power Tuesday night, just after the storm struck.

The company did not say which neighborhoods have been restored. Anecdotal reports from residents indicate that restoration has occurred sporadically around town. Some customers were restored last night after the company powered up portions of town intentionally taken down so high voltage lines could be repaired.

Meanwhile, the power outages continued to cause traffic headaches all around Brick.

Large delays could be seen on Route 70 in both directions – especially east of Route 88 – as New Jersey state troopers directed traffic at some intersections where the lights were out. The ability to cross other intersections of the state highway were being physically blocked by school buses placed there after some drivers ignored roadblocks indicated by cones and barricades.

The major intersection of Route 70 and Brick Boulevard was still out of power by 1:30 p.m., though it was not being blocked. Traffic was moving freely through the area.

The township was still urging people to keep off the roads.
