Updated 12:37 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said a township man was found dead during a search of homes Tuesday night.
The man was found in a flooded home in the Shore Acres neighborhood, Sgt. Keith Reinhard said, though the exact cause of his death was not known.
"The house was flooded, it did have water in it, but I can't say the death was the result of the flooding," said Reinhard.
The home had about two feet of water in it, and the man's body was found face-down on the floor, police said.
The incident is being investigation by township police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Neither the man's name nor his address was being released. His age was not immediately available.
The death is thought to be the first reported in Ocean County.
The Shore Acres section of town was one of the worst hit on the mainland in terms of flooding. Streets to access the neighborhood were generally impassable Tuesday due to flooding and downed power lines, though some readers told Patch some of the flood waters had receded by Wednesday evening.
