Police Arrest Suspect in the Feb. 15 TD Bank Branch Robbery

Sean Kevin Sweeney, 57, also robbed the same bank in 2009 and a bank in Delaware the same day as the Brick robbery

Police arrested a suspect in the Feb. 15 robbery of the TD Bank branch on Cedar Bridge Avenue. The same man, Sean Kevin Sweeney, 57, of Williamstown, will be charged with robbing the same bank in 2009, according to Brick Police Capt. John Rein. He also faces charges of robbing a bank in Delaware the same day as the latest Brick robbery.

Rein said Sweeney was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 17 by detectives from the Brick, Mount Laurel and Newark, Del., police departments, as well as FBI agents.

Police credited tips from the public in helping detectives nab Sweeney, who was being held at the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

"Numerous tips were received after the photo of the suspect was released," Rein said in a statement. "Based on those tips ... an intensive investigation by investigators led to the quick arrest of Sweeney for these offenses."

Cops say Sweeney robbed the bank in Brick at 4:17 p.m. Feb. 15 by passing a note to a teller, then fleeing on foot down Cedar Bridge Avenue. That same day, at approximately 8:45 a.m., according to police, Sweeney is suspected of robbing another TD Bank branch in Newark, Del.

According to Rein, Brick Police Detective James Burgess plans to file charges this Tuesday against Sweeney in connection with another robbery which occurred Jan. 22, 2009, also at the TD Bank branch on Cedar Bridge Avenue. During that robbery, Rein said, Sweeney disguised himself by wearing bandages around his head and the side of his face.

Sweeney is currently facing one count each of robbery and making terroristic threats, though additional charges are expected to be filed. Ocean County Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson set bail at $250,000 in the case.
