Lakewood police say a pit bull named Finley taken during an April 3 burglary in the township was returned over the weekend.

Lakewood police say the burglary occurred Thursday morning at a home on East County Line Road, where a resident reported that while taking her children to school, an unknown person entered her home through the back door. The dog, as well as several bottles of beer, were taken.

In the course of his investigation, Detective Michael Cavallo learned from the victim that Finley was returned in good health Saturday afternoon, police said Monday.

"The resident reported that they heard a dog barking outside their gate on Saturday around 1:30 p.m.," police said in a statement. "When they went outside to investigate, they discovered it was 'Finley.'"

The dog was wearing a leash and collar that did not belong to him, and it is unknown how he was returned or who returned him to his home.

The investigation is still active and anyone with information is being asked to contact Cavallo at 732-363-0200 ext. 5317.

Jeepers @linda, how much more can I do? The feline has been home since this weekend. The cat burglar authoritiess lied to the owner and seized the cat in accordance with Morris's Law. The owner will have to pay a five hundred dollar fine and the public photo op takers may still keep this poor, licensed and papered animal, while they count their pension points and polish their 175 dollar roses colored Ray Bans. That's Jersey Strong for you.

OH! I thought you said it was still missing! I now see that you said he/she was not home with his/her owners!….and you think I should have stayed on the job until I'm 60 something? Sorry about that! I thought I was breaking news!

Breaking news @Linda etc., what I think is that your pension should have been deferred to such time that you were eligible for Social Security and factored accordingly, and should reflect gains and losses based on your contributions. I also think that your health care benefits should be contributed commensurately with the increases therein, but you believe that the collective bribery strong arming is reasonable to starve the children you miss so much to support your admitted own self serving interests. Keep on encouraging the "little" union slugs and the public that you 'served' to pay your way until you croak and then it's their problem. Right?
