Pit Bull Taken During Lakewood Burglary is Returned

Burglary still under investigation

Lakewood police say a pit bull named Finley taken during an April 3 burglary in the township was returned over the weekend.

Lakewood police say the burglary occurred Thursday morning at a home on East County Line Road, where a resident reported that while taking her children to school, an unknown person entered her home through the back door. The dog, as well as several bottles of beer, were taken.

In the course of his investigation, Detective Michael Cavallo learned from the victim that Finley was returned in good health Saturday afternoon, police said Monday.

"The resident reported that they heard a dog barking outside their gate on Saturday around 1:30 p.m.," police said in a statement. "When they went outside to investigate, they discovered it was 'Finley.'"

The dog was wearing a leash and collar that did not belong to him, and it is unknown how he was returned or who returned him to his home.

The investigation is still active and anyone with information is being asked to contact Cavallo at 732-363-0200 ext. 5317.
