Pair Rob House While Third Suspect Distracts Homeowner

A pair of suspects snuck into a victim's home on Hooper Avenue in Brick, while a third accomplice distracted the homeowner outside. Brick Police released footage of the suspects, who took computer equipment and valuables.

Brick Police Sgt. Henry Drew said the incident took place Dec. 10, in the 2500 block of Hooper Avenue, while the homeowner came outside the house to bring in empty garbage cans.

While outside, the victim was approached by one of the suspects, a white or Hispanic male, who began talking to the homeowner about a neighbor's landscaping project.

Drew said the conversation was a ruse to distract the victim, while two other suspects entered the home and burglarized it, taking a safe, a computer and computer monitor among other items.

"The resident advised responding officers that while he was bringing in his garbage can, he was approached by a white or light skinned Hispanic male.  This male began speaking to the resident about fence work that a neighbor was considering," Drew said in a prepared release. "It appears that this conversation was a ruse to keep the resident outside of the home, while two other subjects made entry and removed items including a large black safe, a computer, and a computer monitor."

The suspect who remained outside had a white work van, but a registration was not observed by the victim, Drew said.

However, a surveillance system recorded the subjects that had entered the house and removed the items.  The video and images are attached.
