Motorcycle Driver Injured After Hitting Car From Behind on Herbertsville Road

Police: motorcycle crossed double yellow line before crash that closed Herbertsville Road Sunday night

Brick police say the driver of a motorcycle suffered serious injuries Sunday night after hitting a car from behind on Herbertsville Road.

Robert N. Sottos, 46, of Brick, suffered a compound fracture to his left arm and internal injuries in the 8:24 p.m. accident, which occurred on Herbertsville Road near the intersection with Flagg Road.

Sgt. David Bedrosian said Sottos was riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson in the southbound lane of Herbertsville, two cars behind a 2007 Nissan Sentra being driven by Annmarie Behar, 18, of Brick, as Behar activated her left turn signal to turn onto Flagg Road.

Sottos "crossed a solid double-yellow line in an attempt to overtake the vehicle in front of him," along with the Sentra, said Bedrosian, ultimately hitting the Sentra in the northbound lane as it was turning.

Sottos was ejected from the motorcycle and came to a final rest adjacent to the utility pole located on the southeast corner of the intersection, Bedrosian said, while the Sentra came to a final rest along the tree line on the same corner.

Sottos was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment, while Behar suffered a minor laceration to her left foot.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene during the investigation for approximately two and a half hours, Bedrosian said. Brick Police EMS and Brick Township Volunteer First Aid, along with MONOC Paramedics responded to the scene.

Bedrosian and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded and are conducting the crash investigation. Any potential charges are pending further investigation.
