Motor Vehicle Accident On Cedar Bridge Road Leads To Fatality

Toms River woman dies after being airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident Saturday morning at Cedar Bridge Road and the Garden State Parkway entrance that resulted in the death of a Toms River woman.

The two-car crash occurred near exit 89 of the northbound Garden State Parkway at the Lakewood/Brick Township border.

The two women were in a Nissan Altima crossing Cedar Bridge Road at about 9 a.m. when their car was struck on the passenger side by a BMW sport-utility vehicle, Sgt. Frank Work of the Lakewood police told the Asbury Park Press.

A Lakewood woman driving the SUV ran a red light on Cedar Bridge Road, according to police reports.

The names of the women in the car that was struck have not been released pending family notification.

The women were each flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The two women were extricated from the car by Lakewood firefighters before being transported by Lakewood EMS and MONOC paramedics to Lakewood Airport. They were transported in two helicopters to the hospital, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The Lakewood woman was taken to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.

Yes, it is very sad that a passenger loses her life because someone wasn't paying enough attention to see the light had turned red. I work nearby there and someone is always going through that light.

I'll bet anything that she was texting or on a cell phone when she went threw the red light. Very sad that someone had to die because of her inattention.

If the state of New Jersey would STOP issuing drivers licenses to any one who's feet can reach the pedal, solely because there is enormous amounts of cash that flow into the treasury, these kinds of things wouldn't happen. It's time to tell the DMV or whatever they call themselves this week, that we're tired of dieing so they can make a buck.
