Mandatory Evacuation Ordered for Brick's Barrier Island Section

Evacuation was previously voluntary

Brick officials have ordered a mandatory evacuation of the township's barrier island section. The mandatory evacuation follows similar orders from Toms River and Lavallette for its portions of the island.

The evacuation order is effective immediately. Buses will be available at 7 p.m. at the Brick Beach I police substation to transport barrier island residents to Toms River North High School, a county shelter. Pets are welcome.

No other neighborhoods are contained in the evacuation order. Brick officials have issued a voluntary evacuation of residents who live in low-lying areas, or areas that are prone to flooding. The township has not listed specific neighborhoods covered under the voluntary evacuation order.
