UPDATE: Police Identify Man Killed in Accident on Main Street in Middletown

A landscaper operating a forkllift in the rear of a box truck was struck by a passing car.

Louis Crisitello, 62, was killed in a car accident this morning on Main Street in Middletown around 7:35 a.m., said Det. Lt. Stephen Dollinger of the Middletown Police Dept.

Crisitello was hit by a vehicle operated by Marissa Sasso, 23 from Middletown.

According to a witness, Crisitello was operating a fork lift attached to the back of a box truck labelled Lou's Lawn Maintenance when the car travelling east struck him in front of a white picket fence near Konish Drive.

Middletown EMS and MONOC medics responded to the scene.

Speeding and early morning sun glare are problems on this segment of Main Street, the witness said. Those conditions are not necessarily what caused the accident.

An investigation is being conducted by Cpl. Darrin Simon and Ptl. Nick Caprio. Assisting at the scene was Lt. John Maguire and DFC. Paul Shanley.

In Hazlet, Main Street is called Middle Road.

Anyone that may have witnessed the crash or can provide additional information is asked to contact the Traffic & Safety Bureau at 732-615-2045.

The girl had no insurance on her car. Violation 1 The girl driving illegally Violation 2 Hits someone and leaves scene of accident. Violation 3 On the cell texting and driving violation 4 She is not 17 or 18 a new driver. She is 22. Been driving over 5 yrs and how long without insurance and no care of others. She should of been more compassionate and stayed there to comfort the injured then to leave him die . Sun glare played into the day, but just the fact you had no insurnce Nd was driving KNOWInG you we're breaking the law us consider premeditated. Now a Family is without Father and another family is suffering because this girl thought she was above the law by not having insurance on her car. She may be young and it could of been accidental. But the one simple fact! She was driving with no insurance that is a violation. Who knows how long she has been doing that? It could of been me or you that day. You can't prevent a accident, but you are required to have the proper documents to drive. Otherwise DON'T DRIVE! To be so heartless and cold to leave a person after you hit them to die alone. That's a cold killer Lets see if she gets away with this Because if any other person was driving with no documents We would be thrown in jail and impound the car. Seems fishy how this story has no follow-up . It's a simple dry case!

Lou was my cousin, and I cannot believe that his beautiful life was ended in this horrific manner. He will be missed very much, by me and everyone who know him. With great sadness I remember our childhood together. Antoinette

I am friends with the driver, first of all she wasnt on her phone the police have her phone records. Infact she is the only person i know that doesn't use her phone while driving. She may have left there is no excuse for that, but she didn't know she had hit someone.

It's January 17, 2013 and there still no police report and no charges against the driver who fled the scene with a broken windshield.
