Man Found Dead in Lakewood's Tent City

Foul play not suspected, officials say

Lakewood police say a man was found dead in Tent City Thursday night.

Officer John Pederson went to the encampment at about 7:30 p.m., police said in a statement, after two unidentified residents discovered the victim unresponsive and placed him in a wheel barrel in an attempt to get him some assistance.

Police and EMS personnel responded but rescue efforts were not successful, the statement said. Although there isn't any evidence to suggest foul play, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The Lakewood Police Department Street Crimes Unit as well as the Ocean County Prosecutors Office is handling the investigation.
