Bad news john. Whether this guy likes it or not, 18 means "adult"! Should be hit with contributing to the delinquency of minors. Ah, that magic birthday.
Kitchen Craftsman December 10, 2013 at 09:41 AM
Hey Denny there kids remember when you were a kid you did dum things. Hopefully they learn from this a grow up to be an asset to there community
john December 10, 2013 at 09:46 AM
Kitchen....yes we did dumb things when we were kids...but Not as dumb to be loaded, having stuff in the car....and parking in a lot place where it was obvious people would notice us....kids today aren't even smart/ slick enough to not get caught
WMS826 December 10, 2013 at 12:39 PM
Maybe an adult should be at age 30 given how immature people are today. What is worse is that people like those above make excuses for this behavior and look to still classify them as "kids". They are adults, men, ladies,...young men...young ladies etc. time to be accountable and document this so maybe these drug users do not get jobs in education and be around children or get business licenses so they can enter our elderly parents homes and steal from them under the guise of home repairs and be in other positions of trust in our society.
J.JONES December 10, 2013 at 01:58 PM
No excuse when it comes to drugs ..guilty ..
Kitchen Craftsman December 10, 2013 at 02:11 PM
Wrong John, when I was a kid we were drinking cops pulled us over spilled out the beer and told us go home NOW ! I know it's a lot different today. It's all part of growing up for some and others will never learn, and others are just perfect so they think.
Legion December 10, 2013 at 02:12 PM
Seriously? You all need to get off your pedestals. For all we know it was a couple 18 year olds drinking beer and smoking a dime bag of weed. Not a big deal at all and you're acting like they are hardcore gang bangers. Until it comes out that they were using heroin or crystal meth why don't we take a deep breath and chalk it up to boys being boys. Considering most of the commenters on here probably enjoyed the glory days of the 60's and 70's I invite you to take a trip back to the stuff you did in your teen years.
Karen Wall December 10, 2013 at 02:21 PM
Legion, the sad thing is that people like you assume that being a teenage drunk is a rite -- and a right -- of passage. I guess I was just a disgusting goody-two-shoes but I didn't drink, I didn't party and even now, in my late 40s, I've never smoked a dime bag of weed. Those glory days you speak of? Yeah, it was a real glory going to the funeral of a classmate who died while he and another classmate were "boys being boys" and party-hopping. When are we going to stop saying this is OK? Boys being boys gets people killed, period.
J.JONES December 10, 2013 at 02:25 PM
The article says beers and controlled dangerous substances not a dime bag of weed .
J.JONES December 10, 2013 at 02:28 PM
Parents need to be parents not friends to there kids..Drugs are a huge problem down the shore open your eyes this isn't the same when we were kids..Its worse different types of drugs now killing kids..
Legion December 10, 2013 at 02:28 PM
Brick young. A dime bag of weed would fall under that. No one KNOWS what these kids had. Karen. I'm a 23 year old who has never done a drug in his life. I'm not saying it's ok what they were doing. I'm just pointing out that it's ridiculous this makes headline news and everyone here jumps on them like they're drug dealers from Newark.
J.JONES December 10, 2013 at 02:34 PM
Well good for you Legion but when I hear drugs it pisses me off cause drugs no matter how lite in the beginning turns bad down the road..Have you ever known families that have kids turn bad and just tear there families apart . I HAVE AND IT JUST STARTED WITH A LITTLE WEED ..So stop it when you can and these kids help sooner than latter ..
Beach Mover December 10, 2013 at 02:49 PM
Guess what we were wrong when I was young. Anybody any age under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a motor vehicle should get arrested.
WMS826 December 10, 2013 at 03:27 PM
The liability that you liberals have made the police work under has caused this. You liberals with your lawsuits have forced the hands of authorities to go by the book regardless of any circumstances that might say a break would be in order. You demand cameras in the police cars...now there is a record of the cop letting a drinking kid go who then gets killed walking home or kills someone else if the are driving.
Beach Mover December 10, 2013 at 03:33 PM
This has nothing to do with Liberal or Conservative. If you are drunk while driving, have open alcohol, drugs or anything else illegal you should be punished up to what the laws allow. Cameras in the car saves lives you just said so. What is wrong with that?
Beach Mover December 10, 2013 at 04:24 PM
I give up! Just a little drunk, just a little drugs , just a little high, just a little young. This is the time to arrest kids and make the point. Let them have 2 years probation and record expunged but do not let them get away with it. Do I have to come back to the classic, what if the cops let these kids go and next week the killed somebody you loved?
Karen Wall December 10, 2013 at 04:29 PM
I love how you assume I'm a liberal WMS826. I didn't think it was a liberal stance to not want to be killed driving home by some moron who thinks it's ok to get plastered at a party and then drive home. I didn't think it was liberal to want my daughter who will be driving soon to not have to be on the road with drunken idiots who believe they will be the ones who can handle their inebriated state and get home without killing her. If I had a gun I'd take out the tires of every damn drunk fool I see on Friday and Saturday nights at 1 a.m. when I'm driving home from work. And I see a lot of them.
BrickAmericanMan December 10, 2013 at 05:14 PM
when i was in high school in the 90's there was always weed and psychedelic drugs in every other car in the lot. Beer was in everyones car. Not a big deal. small time shinanigans thats 75% of the students get into...most are smart enough not to get caught. My friends dad went to old brick in the 60's and the 2 cops in town would drive them home if they were too stoned to drive. whats the big deal here?
Dale Kocher December 10, 2013 at 06:09 PM
controlled DANGEROUS substance. And what is that substance exactly? Or was it just a few kids smoking weed which is such a DANGEROUS crime! Oh and the passengers were carrying ALCOHOL! AND THEY WERENT 21!!! OH THE HUMANITY
john December 10, 2013 at 06:18 PM
i use to party when i was younger...drank and smoked pot...but all my friends and i used to be smart about it...dont drink and drive, dont do anything other then smoke pot, dont have anything in our cars, dont carry anything thats to big to eat, no other heavy drugs and dont go anywhere where you stand out and draw attention to yourself...like parking your out of place car on a road in spring lake in the middle of the night where others might think" why is that strange car sitting there". now these kids have all kinds of drugs( and alot of it) in their cars and standing out to where people notice them....not to bright.
BBW December 10, 2013 at 10:07 PM
Can't blame all the kids some have smoked, some don't. When a kid is caught with any kind of drugs you have to make them understand what the consequence of having them is. That being said you need the wisdom of Solomon to judge the circumstances and what and how the particular situation of each kid. Some are users and abusers, some just trying to be with the crowd. Years ago a cop could kick a kid in the ass or drag them off to jail. Not every kid needs to be busted for life for some dumb choices unless the choice demands strong intervention. ask yourself who has the wisdom of Solomon? Bet it's not the parents.
Karen Wall December 11, 2013 at 07:45 AM
Someone made the point that the police apparently didn't say what kind of drugs the kids had. If -- and this is simply an if, because we don't know -- if the kids had heroin, then maybe busting them will keep them from being the next statistic. There have been so many heroin deaths this year and I have a feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better. As for the comment about how police treated kids who were drinking in the '60s and '70s, in case you haven't noticed, the population has tripled (at least) since then. When my parents moved to Brick in 1979, the street we lived on wasn't paved. Beaverson Boulevard didn't have all those businesses on it -- we could ride our bikes to the middle school. That wouldn't even have been an option for my kid if we still lived there because of the amount of traffic and because of the foolish way people drive in that area. Point is, back in the 60s and 70s the risk of killing someone other than yourself while drinking and driving was far lower than it is today. And because these kids were arrested in Spring Lake, that's a lot of ground to cover while being drunk/high. Those parents should thank the police -- they may have saved them from having to bury one or more of those kids.
J.JONES December 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Wow it was only a little weed and a few beers..REALLY They parked on a street in Spring Lake with pot and beer and if they didnt get caught they would have drove home and what if they hit a car or a person or a tree WHAT IF ?? They were lucky to get caught by police to talk about being stupid..
Beach Mover December 23, 2013 at 02:22 PM
Read some if your other post Nick. They explain a lot. Have a Merry Christmas .
Beach Mover December 23, 2013 at 05:20 PM
Classic what some people do call somebody a name with no proof. Nick I know you can't name one racist comment I made, because I did not make any. Happy New Year.
Beach Mover December 23, 2013 at 06:06 PM
Nick interesting talking with you. But how can you call a person anything if you do not know them? Just shows your attitude. Just because I'm young does not mean I can't disagree with what some of my peers do. And thank you I do celebrate Kwanza!!
Legion December 24, 2013 at 05:00 AM
Nice if you're trying to prove a point, proper spelling and grammar would be fantastic!
