Jeep Wrangler Crashes Into Parked Police Car

While conducting a traffic stop, a Manchester police car was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Route 70

A Brick woman was charged after her Jeep Wrangler overturned when it crashed into a parked Manchester police car east of the intersection of Routes 70 and 539 at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Manchester Patrolman Adam Guker, 32, was conducting a traffic stop and had just returned to his patrol car when the Jeep, being driven by Aphrodite Rakos, 25, from Brick, struck the rear of the car, police said. The impact caused the Jeep to ride up the side of the patrol car and proceeded to overturn, coming to a rest on the driver’s side in the opposite lane of travel, police said.

The vehicle that Guker had pulled over for a motor vehicle violation was not involved in the accident, police said.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene of the collision and both Guker and Rakos were transported to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

Rakos has been charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, as well as other motor vehicle violations, police said.

Route 70 was closed for several hours in the area while police investigated the crash. Patrolman Antonio Ellis of the department's Traffic Safety Section and Patrolman Paul Bachovchin are continuing the investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Quality Medical Transport, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit and New Jersey Department of Transportation Emergency Diversion Unit.

Why so much arguing about this story? Car crashes happen every day. This is only making news because she hit a cop car.

Everyone, friend or not, should wait for the facts. The people fighting against here on this board are judging her on alleged offenses. So I agree with you, keep your mouth shut. Your banter is not going to make a difference in the world. Keep your lives safe, and that is all that matters. People are so easy to judge when they are not the ones who were caught. I am willing to bet everyone posting here has got behind the wheel of their car with some ammount of alcohol in their system. So maybe you were lucky and nothing happened to you. We live and we learn. Fortuantely, Aphrodite has lived to tell her story and help keep others safe. Please stop making rude comments, and worry about your own lives. If this is what your life has succomb to, commenting negatively on "patch" comment boards, then I suggest you reevaluate your lives. Everyone writing here is lucky enough to be alive, and wake up each morning. Be grateful for that. I do not think that replacing one patrol car will impact what we already pay in tax money. If you think so, then you must not understand government finances. Their are larger issues in this world that we can refelct, and debate upon.

I agree completely. If she hit anyone else it wouldnt have been a problem but because she accidentally hit a cop car its all over the news. how do you think she feels? theres more things to worry about in the world then one girl who accidentally fell asleep and hit a cop car. accidents happen every day granted she should have been more careful but none of you know her so for you all to judge her and wrote false accusations about her on the internet is ridiculous. what if that was your daughter or niece anyone in your family and you had to read this about them TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT move on and worry about your own lives she will be fine and so will the cop.
