Investigation Continues Into Shooting Death of Six-Year-Old Brandon Holt

No charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation into the shooting death of a 6-year-old Toms River boy by a four-year-old neighbor is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Brandon Holt was shot and killed by his four-year-old neighbor while the two were playing on Monday, April 8. The case was transferred from Ocean County to Atlantic County shortly thereafter to avoid any potential conflicts among law enforcement who may have ties to the case.

The longstanding policy of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has been not to comment on ongoing investigations, although the Prosecutor's Office has said it may take several weeks before charges are filed in this case, and it is expected to make a public announcement when that takes place.

Holt was shot with a .22 caliber rifle while the two were playing together in the neighbor’s yard on McCormick Drive. It remains unclear how the four-year-old came into possession of the weapon, or how the gun was triggered. The parents were “nearby” at the time of the shooting.

No names have been released for the child or the parents.

That is the Patch for you. They print the wrong information, you comment on it and by the time someone else reads it, the article is corrected, so everyone thinks you can't read.

Please take a few minutes to write to the prosecutor to let them know the people of TR will not let them sweep this under the rug. One month since the shooting and while Brandon's parents grieve each day, this man has not been held accountable. Please, take the time to send a letter.
