A Kelly Drive man tried to arrange the sale of a semiautomatic rifle this past spring, according to an indictment handed up last week.
Patrick Melillo Jr., 20, was indicted Feb. 8 by an Ocean County grand jury in connection with his arrest May 16 on weapons charges.
Grand jurors found sufficient evidence to uphold charges accusing Melillo of unlawful possession of a weapon as well as conspiracy to commit the sale of a weapon. Melillo arranged to sell a semiautomatic rifle to a second party in Brick at a predetermined price, the indictment states.
Additionally, Melillo was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon since police said he had brass knuckles "without any explainable lawful purpose."
Melillo remains lodged in Ocean County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Grand juries also indicted:
- Tina L. Clancy, 33, of Sawmill Road on a theft charge.
Clancy stole more than $500 in cash from the Brick between April 20 and May 5, the indictment states. She was released on her own recognizance.
