Indicted Brick Woman Could Face Sanctions; Allegedly Used Beer Bottle To Injure

A Brick resident and former Point Beach soccer star could face disciplinary action at her college after she was indicted in Monmouth County for allegedly using a beer bottle to cause injury.

A Seton Hill University spokeswoman said the college is aware that Katelyn Wiater, a senior student and member of the women’s soccer team, was recently charged in connection with an August 2013 incident in Asbury Park.

Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania plans to use the college's disciplinary process, as outlined in the student Handbook, "to investigate and adjudicate the situation with the student involved as appropriate," according to a statement released by spokeswoman Jennifer Reeger.

"Seton Hill will never condone behavior that interferes with the safety of others either, on-campus or off," according to the statement.

The 22-year-old woman has been indicted on aggravated assault and weapons charges, according to Monmouth County Courthouse records.

Wiater was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly attempting to cause "serious bodily injury to A.B" in Asbury Park on Aug. 1, 2013, according to court records.

Wiater was a former Point Pleasant Beach High School soccer player who made The Star-Ledger's all-Ocean third team in 2009. She was also listed as a midfielder for Seton Hill's team in 2013.

Wiater also was indicted on an unlawful possession of a weapon charge for allegedly intending to use a beer bottle as a weapon, according to court records.

Wiater received an additional charge of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose because she allegedly intended to use the beer bottle to strike "A.B."

The indictment was handed down on April 2. Bail information was not available.
