Flood-Prone Brick Residents Advised to Relocate; Nor'Easter Moves In

Brick Township residents who live in flood-prone areas were being advised by officials to move to higher ground as a nor'easter made its effects known at the Jersey Shore Friday.

Residents who have moved back into the township's barrier island neighborhoods were especially urged to relocate for the storm.

Anyone who is of need of assistance in relocating can contact the Brick Township Police Department for assistance at 732-262-1100, Sgt. Keith Reinhard said.

Also, residents have been given permission by the township to move their cars to any township-owned parking lot (aside from the municipal complex) any time Friday, or any school parking lot after 4 p.m.

Police will patrol those areas, said Reinhard.

"The forecast for this weekend has changed several times over the past day or so. We are preparing for a significant storm and hoping for less," said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis, who added the Public Works Department was preparing for the storm, which will begin as rain and possibly change to snow.

Public Works crews will apply a brine solution to streets prior to the anticipated snow fall, Acropolis said, and will be on standby to begin plowing when snow accumulation reaches approximately 4 inches.

Dunes and berms on the township's oceanfront are continuing to be beefed up in anticipation of heavy surf. In Mantoloking, berms had been built up along Route 35, where the ocean breached during Superstorm Sandy - as well as in a nor'easter that occurred after the storm.

Finally, the township will activate a call center to assist citizens and answer their questions.

There were fewer than five power outages reported town-wide, according to Jersey Central Power and Light.

High tide at the Mantoloking Bridge will occur at 10:08 a.m. and 11:46 p.m. Friday, and 11:11 a.m. and 11:38 p.m. Saturday.

On the oceanfront, high tide will occur and 5:20 a.m. and 4:48 p.m. Friday, and 6:13 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
