Blaze began in the boiler room, according to chief

A fire that broke out just before 5 p.m. on Monday inside the Old Guard building on Duchess Lane was brought under control in a matter of minutes.

Firefighters from the Laurelton, Herbertsville and Point Pleasant Beach fire companies -- filling out a three-alarm response -- responded to the scene, as well as Brick Township Police officers, who blocked off local streets.

Officials with the Brick Township Fire Department, which oversees all of the fire companies in town, were on the scene as well.

A small fire had broken out in the boiler room of the building, according to Chief David Bahrenburg of the Laurelton Fire Company. The fire did not spread to any other parts of the building, nor did it cause any significant damage to the facility.

Bahrenburg said officials were still investigating what may have sparked the fire.
