Drum Point Road Reopened After Car, Bicycle Collide

Teenager on bicycle moved into car's path, police say

Traffic was diverted for about 90 minutes on Drum Point Road between Brick Boulevard and Hooper Avenue following an accident between a car and a bicycle at 3:04 p.m. Thursday, Brick Police Capt. John Rein said.

According to Rein, a 13-year-old boy from Brick suffered facial and head injuries after being struck by a 2000 Hyundai Elantra driven by Concetta Deluca, 67, of Brick.

Both Deluca and the boy were traveling westbound on Drum Point Road when the boy suddenly moved from the shoulder into the roadway, in the car's path, Rein said. He was treated on scene by Brick Police EMS and MONOC paramedics and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

No summonses have been issued, though the accident is still under investigation by Patrolman Gerard Lampiasi and Jeffrey Lindquist of the Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.

I saw this moments after it happend from a distance and it did not look promissing. I also saw it coming back from my sons school and by then i believe the child was brought to the hospital by then. Things like t his worry me, I have an almost 11 year old boy and I always make sure he wears his helmet werther its cool or not!he rides on ou r street close to a dead end and even then we get teens driving well over the speed limit speeding inand out. This is a fear parents have atleast Iknow I do. Parent splease make them wear helmets and teach them proper bike safety when traveling. I pray this boy recovers well.

I love to ride my bike, but try to keep off major roads. It really is upsetting when you read stories about these tragedies. Both drivers and bikers need to take care.
