Driver Rear-Ends JCP&L Truck, Suffers Broken Bones

The driver of a Ford Explorer SUV rear-ended a JCP&L utility truck overnight, resulting in injuries that sent him to a trauma center.

Police say Jason R. Schroyer, 37, of Toms River, suffered multiple bone fractures in his lower body in the 12:40 a.m. accident, which occurred at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Molly Lane in the southbound lanes.

According to a report from Brick Police Traffic Safety Officer Scott Dierking, Schroyer's 2001 Ford Explorer SUV struck the rear of a 1999 JCP&L International Utility truck being operated by Edward F. Murray, 45, of South Toms River. The truck had been stopped at a red light and was still stopped as the light cycled to green, when the accident happened.

The SUV was pinned under the JCP&L truck, police said, and Schroyer was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency workers.

Schroyer was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, according to Dierking, and southbound traffic on Brick Boulevard was detoured around the crash scene for approximately two hours during the accident investigation.

Murray and a passenger in his utility truck refused treatment at the scene, Dierking said.

Brick Police, Brick Police EMS, MONOC paramedics, as well as the Breton Woods and Pioneer Hose fire companies responded to the scene. Brick Volunteer EMS also responded.
