Gas Leak Repaired; Evacuated Residents Return

Leak located in residential neighborhood

Township polie, firefighters and crews from New Jersey Natural Gas responded to the scene of a gas leak at 5 Springhill Drive, located in a residential neighborhood off Princeton Avenue, late Friday morning.

The first call about the leak came in at 11:57 a.m. Friday and NJNG crews were on the scene by 12:13 p.m., according to Micah Rasmussen, a company spokesperson. Brick Police Patrolman Joseph Doyle responded along with units from the Laurelton Fire Company and the Brick Township Police EMS. 

The origin of the gas leak was traced back to the meter, according to Sgt. David G. Bedrosian. Springhill Drive was shut down between Brushy Neck and Beaver Hollow drives as a precautionary measure, and the residents of three homes were evacuated. EMS assisted one handicapped resident evacuate, Bedrosian said.

By 12:45 p.m. the leak was fixed and residents were allowed to return to their homes. NJNG crews ventilated three homes on the street and tested the air inside, Bedrosian said.

Crews from NJNG remained on the scene to complete the repairs after emergency responders left.
