Crews Extinguish Brush Fires On Parkway

Local, state firefighters get blaze under control

Two local fire departments and the state Forest Fire Service were on the scene of two brush fires along the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway near the Brick-Lakewood border, authorities said.

Both fires have been extinguished, according to officials. One fire at mile marker 90.4 spread over approximately one acre while another near mile marker 88 affected about a quarter-acre. The fires were doused by the Lakewood Fire Department as well as the Pleasant Plains Fire Company, said Acting Captain Frank Davis of the New Jersey State Police.

No lanes are closed, Davis said, and there were no significant delays in the area.
