Crash Into Garage Leads to DWI, Other Charges for Woman, 20

Vehicle left Maple Avenue in Brick, struck garage and three other cars

A Neptune woman is facing drunk driving and obstruction charges after crashing into a Maple Avenue resident's garage, police said.

Brick police responded to a 2:41 a.m. accident on the street in the township's Herbertsville section Wednesday, said Sgt. Keith Reinhard.

When Patrolman Mark Byers arrived on the scene, he discovered a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Naverine Celeste, 20, of Neptune, had left the road and crashed into a garage.

An investigation determined that Celeste had been traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue when she apparently lost control of the vehicle.

The Taurus then struck a curb, followed by the garage portion of a residential home, then, finally, another vehicle which was parked in the driveway, said Reinhard.

The impact of the crash caused the garage to partially collapse onto a third vehicle, which was parked inside of the garage.

The two parked vehicles involved are registered to the home that was struck, Reinhard said.

"When the responding officers were initially speaking to Celeste about what had occurred, she reported that a male subject had been driving the vehicle and had fled on foot prior to the police arriving on scene," said Reinhard, but after further investigation it was determined that Celeste was alone, and was driving.

Celeste was charged with DWI, underage DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, violating the provisional hours of operation and obstructing the administration of law for giving false information to the initial responding officers.

Brick Police EMS treated Celeste for minor injuries at the scene.

The Herbertsville Fire Department and the Brick Township building inspector also responded, due to the extensive damage to the home, said Reinhard.
