Cops: Brick Man Arrested After Crashing Into Traffic Light Support, Fleeing

John Leddy, 28, of Hulse Avenue in Brick was arrested at the scene by Wall Patrolman Andrew Baldino for driving while intoxicated and several other motor vehicle violations to include leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

A 28-year-old Brick man was arrested Saturday after he struck a traffic light support and then fled the Wall area, police said.

Wall Township Patrol officers responded to Route 34 and Airport Road after a motorist struck a traffic light stanchion fled the area northbound in the southbound lane. A short time later, Howell Township Patrol officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and affected a motor vehicle stop on County Road 547 at West Hurley Pond Road, police said.

Howell Township Police will be issuing motor vehicle summonses as well for violations that occurred in their jurisdiction. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no injuries or passengers in Leddy’s vehicle. Leddy’s 1997 green 4 door Jeep Wagon was impounded.

As a result of the accident, the left lane of Route 34 northbound was closed for several hours while NJ DOT removed debris from the roadway and replaced the traffic light stanchion. Leddy was processed and released in accordance with John’s Law.
