Charges Pending in Lakewood New Years Eve Stabbing

Authorities have not released the name of the victim or suspect in the case

Charges are pending against an unidentified suspect in a stabbing that occurred minutes before midnight on New Years Eve.

Authorities have yet to release the names of the victim or suspect in the case, but say Lakewood police were called to the Lakewood American Legion post on River Avenue at 11:55 p.m. after a stabbing was reported. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman with a slash wound to her neck, according to a statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford.

The suspect in the case apparently stabbed himself in the neck prior to the arrival of police, Lynch said.

The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment. The suspect was transported to a local hospital.

Criminal charges are pending in case, the statement said.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Detective Steven Wexler of the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200 or Detective Tom Tiernan of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027.
