Car Fire Closes Mantoloking Road for 30 Minutes

Bridge was closed Sunday, according to police

A car fire was behind the half hour-long closure of Mantoloking Road on Sunday.

Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard said police and firefighters responded to a vehicle fire near the road's westbound lanes at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was having trouble with the accelerator pedal as he was driving west over the Mantoloking Bridge, Reinhard said. When he pulled over the car to check on the problem, he noticed a fire which had started under his vehicle.

Reinhard said the driver immediately contacted the police, but the vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames.
