Brick Woman Arrested Following Heroin Investigation

A Brick woman was one of two people arrested following an investigation into heroin dealing in the local area, authorities said Monday.

Khalia Johnson, 30, of Sawmill Road, was arrested June 21 alongside Benjamin Dinkins, 43, of Porter Avenue in Seaside Park.

The arrests came after members of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Operations Group conducted an investigation and pulled over a GMC Jimmy on Bay Avenue in Toms River. Johnson was driving the vehicle; Dinkins was her passenger, a statement from the prosecutor's office said.

At one point, Dinkins attempted to flee on foot, said Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato. The chase ended with Dinkins struggling with a detective, who suffered "minor injuries" in the altercation and was treated and released from Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Dinkins was ultimately found to be in possession of 23 grams of raw heroin and 50 bags of pre-packaged individual dosage units of heroin, the statement said. Police also executed a search warrant on the SUV, which resulted in the seizure of items associated with the manufacture and packaging of raw heroin, including stamps, stamp pads, scales and new wax folds used to package raw heroin into individual dosage units.

Dinkins has been charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute over one half ounce, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer. Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson set Dinkins' bail at $125,000 cash.

Johnson was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute over one half ounce. Her bail was set by Hodgson at $35,000 cash.

Dinkins remained in the Ocean County Jail on Monday, records showed. Johnson was not being lodged in the jail.
