25-year-old also charged with drug, resisting offenses

A Brick man is behind bars after he threatened a couple with a gun, then resisted arrest, police said.

Matthew Sanfilippo, 25, of Village Way, was arrested early Friday morning.

Police responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store on Route 88 after receiving a call from Sanfilippo's alleged victim, Edward Trost, 25, of Toms River at about 12:20 a.m. Trost told police that he and his girlfriend picked up Sanfilippo at his residence and were bringing him to a party on Fairway Drive in Brick.

Once they arrived at the party, Sanfilippo took out a black handgun, pointed it at Trost and threatened him with it, Trost reported, according to Sgt. Keith Reinhard.

Trost and his girlfriend then drove away and called police.

Police then went to the residence on Fairway Drive and ultimately arrested Sanfilippo, but not before he resisted arrest by retreating back into the house once he observed the police, Reinhard said.

A black, Glock .45 caliber handgun was found at the residence.

Sanfillippo was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, drug possession, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and being a person forbidden to have a weapon.

Sanfillippo's bail set at $100,000 cash by Municipal Court Judge Robert Lepore. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.

Brick Police officers Kris DeMarco and Benny Alvarado, as well as members of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, made the arrest.
