Brick Resident, 27, Stabs, Kills Armed Robber

Brick resident now facing drug charges, prosecutor's office says

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Monday that a 31-year-old Berkeley Township man was stabbed and killed by a Brick man after he and an accomplice tried to enter the Brick man's residence with the intent of robbing it.

Adam Ferguson was stabbed inside the Marilyn Drive home of Brick resident Joseph P. Bellisano, Jr., 27, after he and Mark A. Dillard, of South Toms River, attempted to rob the home, according to Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Brick Patch of the incident, which occurred at about 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Ferguson, of Shearwater Hollow in the township's Bayville section, was pronounced dead at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, at 7:53 p.m., Mohel said.

The accomplice, Dillard, 30, was arrested and charged with armed robbery. Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson, Jr., set bail at $350,000 cash. Dillard was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in lieu of bail.

Police also arrested Bellisano following the incident. He was charged with drug possession and intent to distribute oxycodone and released on a summons. He has not been charged in the stabbing.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, and authorities are asking anyone with information on the case to contact Brick police Detective Ken Steinberg at 732-262-1120 or the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027.

Thank you for serving.
jeff May 11, 2011 at 03:22 PM
First off I feel for both parties involved. I just do not see how some are trying to justify his actions because he was a vet. There are plenty of ex soldiers who served time. It does not give them the green light to do whatever they choose. Why must everyone come out and judge. Let the investigation take place. There is still another person who was with him. There has to be more to this story.
Nim May 12, 2011 at 12:18 AM
And do we know for certain, he broke into the home? Maybe he didn't. Maybe he was let in, and then everything went down.
jeff May 12, 2011 at 04:07 AM
It has to do with the crowd you surround yourself with also. I just hope the truth comes out and all of the facts come out. South toms river doesn't always get the best rap nothing but trouble there.

Mare, You should be proud of your family and that they have not suffered from war. Addiction is a horrible thing and illness and it happens to all people. You should be proud that none of your men are addicted to drugs, alcohol, food, gambling .. You also should be proud that the men in your life are so strong.. ADDICTION is horrible and when ignorant people make comments on this board it’s even sadder because you’re one less person that will help resolve this epidemic.. It angers me how the Dr.’s out there just dish out the meds.. I recall seeing my Marine given large amounts of pain killers.. He did not become addicted to them.. I have also seen many young teens coming from great homes across the US that have become addicted to these horrible pills.. I lived all over Ocean County that includes Brick, TR, Lacey and Seaside.. NOO matter where you are there are all kinds of drugs out there for the rich and poor.. and addicts come in all shapes and sizes..
JK May 12, 2011 at 03:35 PM
continue to Mare and others.. You have your right to make judgments (as do I) and I would think being that you have so many family members in the military that you would know what they see during war.. It sounds like you’re more upset because he served our country.. AS for the others that posted negative comments on here how embarrassing to think that you are an American! Who are you to post nasty comments… Unless you get off upsetting people.. while sitting in your chair all day.. GET A LIFE and give back to society instead of making nasty comments do something to help out.. OR are you not intelligent enough too.. HAVE any of you every lost anyone to cancer, an accident, heart attack.. tragically! How heartless you are.. Shame on you all for making negative comments.. He was a young man that could have gotten help.. and stabbed in the back.. ! THE BACK.. This poor man has a family that will go on living with this horrible memory.. He will no longer be suffering from addiction.. (that is if he really was one) but his family will forever.. Think about his parents and his only brother.. This momma lost 2 sons.. That is heart breaking.. could any of you image that.. and when you make evil comments.. it is worse than being an addict or dealer.. it just shows what ignorant people you are.. To Adam’s family and friends may you live on by thinking about the good times.. My condolences to you.. JK

Prayer for Peace Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

JK, I said earlier that my husband does suffer from PTSD. I'm not judging anyone. There are other things someone can do (my husband does drink) that aren't illegal to take their minds off the memories. Thank God my son hasn't seen war. It is horrible, but not all Vets turn to drugs/crime. Obviously this guy did something wrong somewhere and I was not judging him, merely stating facts. Many with PTSD do not do illegal things. Many in fact withdraw from society totally living in tent cities and drinking their lives away. I do know what I speak of. Sadly this man took a wrong turn and like I said, his family needs our prayers now.

Its so sad when anything like this happens, but self defense is legal. As for drug dealing, thats a sign of the times. Not agreeing with it, but do you sell burgers for 7.55 an hour, or drugs for 75.50 an hour......This is why you should think thing out, life is to short......
disgusted homeowner May 17, 2011 at 12:43 PM
You see more and more of these type of incidents nowadays. Bad economy, lack of affordable housing, lack of good paying jobs, etc. are only helping this trend grow...........

Thank you Stacy. Will the words you quote encourage us to be compassionate and helpful? To say that others served in combat but turned to alcohol instead of "illegal" drugs begs the question. It irks me that we make so much fuss about "serving the USA in the military" but when those souls return to civilian life, they don't get the help they need to make the transition. My experience with post traumatic stress comes from the '70's being attacked from behind by a man with a knife and another time having a gun pointed at me and told to get into the car. I was not in "the wrong neighborhood" incidentally. I was fortunate in that I wasn't stabbed and got away in the first instance. In the secon d (broad daylight), I memorized the license plate, turned around (fully expecting to be shot) and walked to a diner. When I blurted out what had happened, no one would get involved and write dwn the license number. I was told to go to the pay phone; I forgot the license number. As a consequence of these two, brief encounters, I went through insomnia. I continue to be jumpy, especially when I hear footsteps running up behind me. I would never presume to tell a veteran s/he should "get over" having been in combat. I haven't walked in those shoes. If we give physical therapy to those with broken bones, why is psychological therapy not regarded as just as important in the recovery process?

This is a sad story, but unfortunately fairly typical of the times we live in. As long as this world continues to be under the dominion of Satan, many kids from all backgrounds and environments will continue to ease their pain by resorting to drugs, prescription or illegal. Since Adam started us on this rollercoaster mankind has been inclined to continue sinning. In the book of 2 Timothy we are told that in the "last days" critical times hard to deal with will be here. That is certainly the truth. Revelation also tells us that one day "every tear will be wiped from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore". Judgment day will actually be a good thing, when the wicked element is wiped off the face of the earth and people will not be prone to sin by nature. An old-fashioned do-over for mankind and its humble members. This is the only way the earth and our neighborhoods will be cleansed of all the violence and drugs we are currently overrun with. Nothing man and government tries to do will work. Jeremiah says "it does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step". The system is doomed until God steps in. But because of that reality (fully understanding many do not have this faith) there is hope for this planet.

Ok I just wanna set the record straight....adam n mark broke into my family home I can't release details but they were armed n lesser force was used if anyone actually knows the laws....Joey is my little brother.....he's a good kid....he did what anyone would do if someone broke into our homes....mark admitted everything to the police and so did my family.....it was just 4 kids not thinking my lil brother the robbers and the girl who planned it all.....everyone should be blaming her because none of this wouldn't have happened if she didn't open her mouth and set my brother up! and it would be nice if everyone stopped bad mouthing anyone because none of you truly know the whole story and it will come out in court and everyone supporting the robbers will see them for what they were ARMED ROBBERS!!!
Jason G. Begnot April 23, 2012 at 02:54 AM
Was the house broken into? What was he armed with? (A box cutter could be used as a weapon, or something as stupid as a pen) It was obvious that those two were not there to rob the house, they were there for drugs or money, or maybe Joe/drug dealer ripped them off??? Just a thought....

I like how you neglect the fact that your brother was a drug dealer. No drugs, no incident. What were these two individuals armed with?
Jason G. Begnot April 23, 2012 at 03:03 AM
Did your little brother learn how to deal drugs from you? Sounds like you were a great role model??? Also, lesser force is stabbing someone in the back?
John May 25, 2012 at 01:21 AM
Whose a drug dealer? People trying to rob you of your own perscribed medication makes him a drug dealer? There was never any proof that kid was selling drugs besides there word against his. He only got charged with (intent) to distribute because he had leftover meds from the previous month. I know him and he is the nicest guy i know so get your facts straight talking trash to his family a year after she posts.
Jason G. Begnot July 21, 2012 at 02:41 PM
The drug dealer was the one that was selling prescription narcotics, no? Are you saying that a few people went after him because they heard he had a few leftover painkillers from a previous month's prescription? How would they know him and where he lived? What are the facts? I didn't hear any facts or see anything posted that were factual? The "nicest" guy you know was selling prescription narcotics, anybody can see that. My intent was not to talk trash to a random post, the whole thing is shady, robbers and drug dealer are all guilty, it doesn't matter.
john July 28, 2012 at 10:12 PM
The girl nicole was chillin with joe and she knew he had a script and set him up to get robbed. My boy was sittin in his house mindin his own buisness. They went in there for trouble n got trouble.

Mare September 22, 2012 at 04:18 PM
JK, I don't know where you conjured up the idea that "my family has not suffered from war." I've tried to post a correction to this previously but they keep removing my post,. My husband does "SUFFER FROM WAR" and he is addicted to alcohol, but we must not forget, alcohol is a "LEGAL" substance. If it were not a legal substance, I can assure you, being a former Law Enforcement Officer, my husband would not imbibe! Now if this post is not permitted as the last three were not, Oh well. Your ignorance is astounding and to make accusations of people you do not know, just shows your high level of ignorance JK.
john January 19, 2013 at 04:08 AM
Jason you obviously have no idea of the facts. Those kids sat in a truck up the st from the home for an hour waiting till they thought joe was alone and that was confirmed by the guy in the house up the street that they were patked out there. Once they saw a car leave and just joes car was there which they knew cause nicole told them the car thr house layout and where joe had his perscription bottle because she was there hangng out w joe an hour before so she could ser it up n those kids masked up n had knives in hand n walked up the st n into the home n went strait to the room and strait fo the mefs even tho they were never in the hme once before. Andvfact is adam stabbed joevmultiple times before joe even grabbed his own weapon not to mention mark ran into joe sr putting him thru the drywall so jr didnt kno if his father eas stabbed al
