Brick Police Remove Gunpowder Damaged By Hurricane Sandy From Residence

With the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad's assistance, police then performed a "controlled detonation" to the gunpowder, police said.

Brick police recovered from gunpowder late Tuesday that had been damaged by Hurricane Sandy from a township residence.

The gunpowder, which was legally possessed, had deteriorated because of water damage from Hurricane Sandy. The items were transported to the Brick Township Public Works facility, where the controlled detonation occurred.

The Herbertsville Fire Company, and Brick Police EMS stood by to insure the safety of all involved, police said.
