Brick Police Arrest Six After Party Leads to Fight, Stabbing

An out-of-control party led to one man being stabbed and six others placed under arrest for various offenses early Friday morning, police said. Officials are investigating the possibility that the incident may have stemmed from a dispute  between rival gang members.

Brick Police responded to a call about a fight in progress at 2:38 a.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Keith Reinhard. When Officer Kris DeMarco arrived at the corner of National Ave. and Van Zile Road, he found several people in the street as five more fled the scene. Among those in the street were Ezra Strong, who fell to the ground after telling DeMarco he had been stabbed, and Ronald Daniels, who would later be arrested after becoming belligerent and trying to enter a police supervisor's vehicle, according to a police report.

Police later discovered the stabbing and fight began after a wild party had taken place at 38 National Avenue, Reinhard said. A friend of the owner of home where the party took place, a man identified by police as Fritz Jeanbaptiste,  attempted to get everyone out of the house when he was slashed about the face and shoulders, possibly with a knife.

The bulk of the arrests occurred as police continued the investigation. As Officer Rich Crimi was probing the incident, Tyrone Sanders, 19, of Asbury Park, attempted to walk past him toward the crime scene before disobeying orders to return to the house and pushing Crimi, Reinhard said.

"He was advised that he was under arrest, but continued to fight with the officers and was subsequently subdued and placed into custody," Reinhard said.

While the officers were attempting to arrest Sanders a female identified as Jaleesa Richard-Murray, also 19, of Asbury Park, attempted to pull DeMarco off of Sanders, police said. Richard-Murray, once placed under arrest, later attempted to kick out the windows of a patrol car, according to a police report.

As the investigation continued, police received a call from a resident on Sunrise Street about three men hiding in a backyard behind his shed, Reinhard said.

Officers Mike Feeney, Larry Petrola and Joseph Oliveri responded and eventually arrested Ansel Applewhite, 18, of Sawmill Road; Rayshawn Jones, 20, of Sawmill Road; and a male juvenile for disorderly conduct after all three began screaming obscenities at the officers and refused their commands, according to police.

Applewhite faces charges of resisting arrest, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and marijuana possession. Sanders was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and an active warrant out of Asbury Park. Murray faces charges of obstruction, disorderly conduct and hindering apprehension, and Jones is facing charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

All were released on summonses and are not cooperating with authorities, police said. No arrests were made in the stabbing incident, which remains under investigation.

Strong, the stabbing victim, was treated at the scene and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Jeanbaptiste was treated at the scene, but refused to go to a hospital.
