Brick Officers Recover 1,600 Bags of Heroin After Suspect Rams Police Car, Flees

Cops broke up drug deal in Target parking lot

UPDATED: 11:21 a.m. Saturday with additional details and charge information.

~

Two detectives from the Brick Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit broke up a drug deal in the Route 70 Target parking lot, then recovered 1,600 bags of heroin after a suspected drug dealer rammed an unmarked police car and nearly hit another officer.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Capt. John Rein said.

At that time, Detective Jason Shepherd and Detective Sgt. Joseph Forrester observed what appeared to be a drug deal going down between two men – one driving a Honda Civic and another driving a Ford Escape. As the officers approached the vehicles and identified themselves, Rein said, the man driving the Ford backed his vehicle up and rammed the detectives' unmarked vehicle.

The suspect – later identified as Joseph Misyack, 29, of Lakewood – then drove the vehicle toward Shepherd, narrowly missing the officer, Rein said. Misyack then drove over curbing in the parking lot, fleeing toward the rear of the store and exiting into the eastbound lanes of Cedar Bridge Avenue.

Misyack then abandoned the vehicle approximately a quarter mile away in the parking lot of the Cedar Garden Apartments on Cedar Bridge Ave. and fled on foot, Rein said. He was located 15 minutes later in a wooded area between the rear of the apartment complex and homes on Duquesne Blvd. and was arrested without further incident.

Misyack was found to have been in possession of 1,604 bags of heroin as well as $800 cash, Rein said.

Misyack was charged with possession of heroin, distribution of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, distribution within a 1,000 feet of a school zone, obstruction, hindering, eluding and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and numerous motor vehicle offenses. He was being lodged at the Ocean County Jail on $150,000 cash bail.

The suspect operating the Honda, identified as Michael Conte, 28, of Toms River, remained on scene and was placed under arrest without incident. He was charged with being in possession of 50 bags of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.  After being processed he was released on a summons.

The Ford Escape and Honda Civic were both seized and taken back to Brick Police headquarters.  An execution of a search warrant on Misyack’s vehicle, the Ford Escape, which was a rental vehicle, recovered an addition 50 bags of Heroin and $567.

Conte’s vehicle was being held pending forfeiture.

However, review of the applicable New Jersey Revised Statutes (Title 39, Motor Vehicles and Traffic Regulations) appears to support the conclusion that such a turn is not legal. Other states, by the way, have specific laws which say that it either is or is not legal.

@Jeffery
who did I jump down on? I certainly didn't jump down on police. I questioned if this has become the new thing for illegal activity and if so are the innocent protected. Are our shopping plazas safe for people to come and go w/o being caught in the middle of something by accident. Were the undercover officers there for a certain reason or was the store itself or certain persons being watched.

sorry for your loss but you're not the only person in this world to have lost someone one to drugs.
you do what you need to do to make yourself go on day to day and if that means making up an excuse by calling it a disease then by all means do so. Yes I know smack can be used by snorting it as well as smoking it as well as combining it w/ coke and other drugs. in the long run it's an addiction caused by the use and nature of the drug, not a disease.

maybe next time the police can just say oh all you bad people give up pretty please. Let me guess youre one of those pinhead liberals who dont think the police should pursue criminals if they run. So all a crook has to do is run away.Stop watching you hollywierdo garbage & deal with reality.
BTW the police showed great restraint in not (doing us a favor) & unlloading a clip or 2 into your buddies considering they rammed a cruiser & tried to run down another police officer.

RE: John C "Why would there have been a high speed chase? The article said the police car was unmarked. There would have been no reason to flee at high speeds. People driving with lots of drugs in the car are very careful of their driving. The suspects did not panic and act aggressively until the police officers identified themselves."
OK john sounds like youre still on drugs or a fool. Either way Ill type very slow so hopefully you can follow Howmany times have we heard in the news about drug dealers arrested while driving at a high rate of speed a simple google search turned up http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/story/2012/08/26/edmonton-sylvan-lake-pills.html benicia.patch.com/.../benicia-police-log-drug-dealer-arrested-on-east-... www.live5news.com/.../suspected-drug-dealers-arrested-after-cocaine... http://www2.wrbl.com/news/2012/may/31/sheriff-mid-upper-level-drug-dealer-arrested-ar-3893409/

ask ADDICTION specialist they'll tell you all about it. In fact why dont you look it up yourself. You're so wrong on this subject. You're just another low class a-hole who thinks you know everything but sorry you're indeed wrong.

Again I have to agree with clam. Addiction is psychological and not physical. Addiction can be overcome and the person live a normal life free of that addiction. On the flip side a person with a disease can not overcome that disease and live a normal life ie: Altsheimers. A disease can be treated but not cured, where addiction can be treated and a complete cure is possible.
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-heart-addiction/201112/is-addiction-really-disease I know this because I have dealt with family members with different addictions, and when that person is willing to admit they need help and a cure can be had. Those who are not willing to admit this usually succum to the addiction. Those with disease have no choice, the disease while treatable, will become fatal.

Clamdigger I'm done with you child like banter. You no nothing about drug disease & driving. How funny is it that you have to start crap on this topic about me making a statement about making a left hand turn in one of my posts. Since you have been making the illegal turns for over 30 years I'm assuming you're one of the old people who cannot drive and cause accidents. I don't care that you have a drivers manual that you are reading. Hahaha look it up online. I also posted some info about someone getting a three point ticket.
You think drug addititon isn't a disease, let me say if you are diabetic and you have take a pill to function because diabetes is a disease. Same applys here. You're attitude shows just the type of person you are. So sorry for you. I'm done with you lame comments and will get back to talking about the topic here. I don't look for people who make statements and go off on them when it clearly has nothing to do with the topic. Plus I wasn't even writing with you. Go find someone else to argue with. I'm reached the point were I am lowering myself to your level which is about an inch off the ground. Continue to believe what you do & make your illegal left hand turns. You are just plan ignorant!
BW August 27, 2012 at 08:55 pm
Addiction is psychlogical, disease is physical. There is a differnce. You need a pill to treat disease yes, but you do not need a pill to treat addiction.
To treat and cure addiction, the addict must admit they have a problem and want help. It is just like nicotine, you have to want to quit to get rid of the addiction. With disease no matter how bad you want to quit the disease, you cant.
clamdigger August 27, 2012 at 09:06 pm
of course "they" will tell you that. This has become the norm for society to put a label on something so personal responsibility can be avoided and family members can be made to feel better. "They" will remove all liability by putting the "disease" label on it and say it couldn't be helped because the user was under the control of the "disease". If alcoholism can be labeled a disease well then so can drug addiction. This is what our society has become, a society where everything needs to be an excuse or labeled as such and such or so and so,this way all accountability can be removed and people like yourself can feel better there was a reason for a bad thing to happen and allow you to feel better for the reason there was a loved one lost and no blame can be placed on that person for the rest of your life,so you can find a way to move on and get past the sorrow.
The only people would truely say are at the control of this "disease" are babies born to mothers who used and abused drugs while pregnant, for they are truely born w/ the sickeness already inside them.
Tapuout August 27, 2012 at 09:25 pm
John c your still an ignorant moron. And if the drug deal itself bad between dealer and buyer, which it could have, and the dealer/driver fled one another and mowed down, or worst case scenarios shot and missed, pedestrians or you and you poor 17yp son you would blame police for not patrolling the plazas or cleaning the streets. Admit it the police are damned if they do or damned if they don't because you, like princess wahoo, have a problem with the pd and just don't like police. Your rant is ignorant and biased, good job guys a lot of us aren't ignorant and appreciate what you do keep up the good work
BW August 27, 2012 at 09:29 pm
Actually it does have to do with the topic at hand. If you want to continue to believe it is a disease that is your opinion and you are entitled to it.
I however did not contradict myself. 30 years in the medical field, dealing with family members, I know what I speak about. And FYI heart disease CAN NOT be over come, it can be treated, but in the end it will kill you. Addiction can be over come and you dont need to give them more pills, that they WILL become addicted to, to cure addiction. Again ADDICTION IS PSYCHOLOGICAL NOT PHYSICAL
2much2say August 27, 2012 at 09:39 pm
Clam FYI this isn't the case here. Others are to blame. You don't know my story nor do I care what you think but you're passing judgement on my behalf. OTHERS are to BLAME in my case so you're wrong again.
Look next time & in the future you should really stick to the topic of the article not choose to call out people on their comments. FYI someone else idiot.

Omg BW
Heart Disease is curable "open heart surgery", stents that are cured if the change their lifestyle correct? What is your medical profession? I'm saying the topic here is about a drug bust at target not if drugs are a disease & crossing dbl yellow lines. That's my point. Listen, I cannot go into detail about my loved ones case as it's an open investigation & it's something that doesnt need to be discussed on my part. You're correct I am entitled to my own opinion and I shared my views and sticking by them.
BW August 27, 2012 at 09:58 pm
YOU ARE WRONG. Open heart surgery/bypass only lasts 10 years then the graphs start to clog up and detertiorate. Stents is a temporary fix. What is YOUR medical back ground, because obviously you have no idea.
You see I have gone through this with my father for the last 10 years. He just sufferedd a heart attack last month because the graph deteriorated to the point no blood was flowing through. I have been a nurse for 30 years, I have worked cardiac, oncology, pulmonary, hosspice. Seriously dont speak when you dont know what you are talking about. You told clam to google it so why dont you do the same and educate yourself.

Have you looked up the definition of disease?
BW August 27, 2012 at 10:13 pm
Last post.
Diesase noun an affiction of the body or the brain that a person has no control over. ADDICTS have control of what they are doing, a sckitzophrenic or person with demencia does not. BIG DIFFERENCE.

ad·dic·tion   [uh-dik-shuhn] noun the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma. dis·ease   [dih-zeez] . noun 1. a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment. Many people do not understand why individuals become addicted to drugs or how drugs change the brain to foster compulsive drug abuse. They mistakenly view drug abuse and addiction as strictly a social problem and may characterize those who take drugs as morally weak. One very common belief is that drug abusers should be able to just stop taking drugs if they are only willing to change their behavior. What people often underestimate is the complexity of drug addiction -- that it is a disease that impacts the brain and because of that, stopping drug abuse is not simply a matter of willpower. Through scientific advances we now know much more about how exactly drugs work in the brain, and we also know that drug addiction can be successfully treated to help people stop abusing drugs and resume productive lives.

WOW! Is really all I can say w/ all that has been said here! Who cares where these scum bags got arrested? I would love for it to be on my street so I could watch, yes daily I watch these scum bags on my street while my children are out and yes daily I call the police! I have dealt w/ this w/ a child of my own, its heart wrenching. Nothing anyone can do until the addict decides they are done.....PERIOD! Must drug dealers are not addicts all they do is feed the addiction of others they don't care who they hurt all they care about is the money.....PERIOD! Kudos to the officers that take them down even if it is only for a few hours because yes they will get bailed out and do it again!!
clamdigger August 27, 2012 at 11:18 pm
@D5557; now who's being a child, you drop a statement like this "I don't care that you have a drivers manual that you are reading. Hahaha look it up online."
I didn't have to look it up I already knew what the answer was, I provided you the link and page for your awareness. you say you live near Atco, so I'll assume you've driven on Rt.70,Rt.73,Rt.72 and others out that way, well there are plenty of areas where there are Dbl yellow lines that require someone to turn left to access homes and businesses w/o any breaks in the lines or openings. If find it hard to understand how you can say it isn't permitted. What are people suppose to do? Drive to the next nearest right turn, then turn around in a driveway, return to the street and make a left turn back onto the highway then drive back to the location they origionally wanted to arrive at? Think about what you are saying and how crazy it is. you go ahead continue to believe what "they" tell you about drug addiction. You can believe what "they" tell you so you can feel better from day to day and I'll continue to believe what I believe and that addiction to heroin, coke, crack is a personal choice. You choose to take the risk of putting it in your body knowing full well of the dangers it involves and that includes addiction and possibly death.
John C August 29, 2012 at 04:11 am
Alcoholism and drug addiction are linked to genes. Some people are genetically predisposed to alcohol and drug abuse - and this is supported with actual science, not opinion. A genetic trait, or abnormality that predisposes one to a negative behavior or condition sure sounds like disease to me. I don't have time to dig up this now old research for you since it's bed time, but this link should suffice. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/10/061020080712.htm

I don't know why people who live in Toms River always feel so superior. Highway 37 is a nightmare, there are more bad neighborhoods in TR than Brick or sure. Jackson.....we know they all marry their cousins!
