Brick Man Indicted in Kidnapping, Assault

Jose A. Lopez also faces weapons charges

A Brick man has been indicted on charges that he held his girlfriend hostage, assaulted her, made terroristic threats and possessed a weapon.

Jose Anthony Lopez Jr., 23, of Hooper Avenue, was arrested by Brick police in September.

Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard said at the time that Lopez broke a restraining order by visiting a 27-year-old woman, his ex-girlfriend, following a conversation between the two where she allowed him to come to her township home. The next morning, he said, Lopez became violent, punching the woman in her face and head and cutting her wrist with a knife.

It is alleged that Lopez refused to let the woman leave the residence, and threatened her life when the two eventually went to stores. At one point, the woman escaped and called police, Reinhard said.

An Ocean County grand jury on Feb. 14 indicted Lopez on one count each of kidnapping, terroristic threats, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and contempt.
