Brick Man Indicted for Forging Checks

Another local man charged with failing to comply with Meghan's Law regulations, other offenses in Brick

A 40-year-old Brick Township man is accused of forging and passing seven checks at a TD Bank branch between Jan. 2 and 20 and stealing more than $500 by deception.

Michael J. Ely, of California Avenue, is the target of the charges contained in an 8-count indictment against him returned by an Ocean County grand jury.

  • Stephen J. McCrea, 45, of Route 37 West, Toms River, charged with failing to get permission to change his address under Megan’s law, having a .32 caliber pistol, an expanding baton, Crossman BB rifle and marijuana in Brick on Jan. 11.
  • Julio C. Padilla Jr., 20, of Newark, accused of fraudulently using two credit cards credit card at a 7-11 store, Exxon station, Corner Snack Shop and Wendy’s Restaurant in Brick on June 19 and stealing the cards.
  • Michael Carlucci,  42, of Leonardo, and Tracy K. Williams, 37, of South New Prospect Road, Jackson, accused of stealing outside children’s play equipment and toys worth more than $500 from nursery schools, kindergartens and day care facilities in Toms River, South Toms River, Beachwood, Manchester, Point Pleasant, Point Pleasant Beach, Barnegat, Berkeley, Brick, Lacey, Jackson  Lakewood, Little Egg Harbor, Ocean, Stafford, and Tuckerton between Aug. 14, 2009 and April 17, 2010.
