Brick Man Critical After Motorcycle, Van Collide

Accident occurred on Princeton Avenue Monday afternoon

A Brick man is in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after his motorcycle collided with a minivan on Princeton Avenue Monday afternoon.

At about 4:05 p.m., Robert L. Carlson, 47, was traveling westbound on Princeton Avenue on his 2000 Kawasaki Voyager XII motorcycle when he collided with a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan operated by Patricia Musto, 43, of Brick.

According to Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian, Musto was traveling eastbound and had stopped and signaled to make a left turn into the driveway at 550 – 552 Princeton Avenue. While in the process of making the left turn her vehicle was struck by the motorcyclist. As a result of the impact the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and came to final rest approximately 15 feet west of the initial impact, in the eastbound lane of Princeton Avenue.

Carlson suffered head trauma and multiple internal injuries and was transported by ambulance to Ocean Medical Center, Brick, and then by Monoc 1 medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he was listed as being in critical condition at 9 p.m. Monday night.

Musto's vehicle was also occupied by her three children as well as two juvenile family friends. One 9-year-old passenger received a minor facial laceration in the accident and was treated at the scene and released to a parent, Bedrosian said.

Brick Township Police Department EMS, as well as MONOC paramedics responded to the scene. Bedrosian and Officer Jay Lampiasi of the Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit are conducting the investigation.
