Brick Man Arrested for Heroin Distribution in Virginia

Drug seizure 'largest of its type in this region's history,' local sheriff's office says

A Brick man was arrested in Virginia earlier this month and faces charges following a drug seizure that is considered the "largest of its type in this region's history," the Stafford County, Va. Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Steve Carrington Durham, Jr., 28, was the subject of an investigation focusing on the shipment of a large quantity of heroin that was destined to be picked up in Stafford County and delivered south of the Fredericksburg region, the statement said.

Ultimately, during the late night hours of May 8, Durham was stopped in the Courthouse Road area of Stafford, in his vehicle along with an unnamed female who was later released with no charges.

A search of the trunk followed after a police K9 detected drugs, which revealed approximately two kilograms of heroin with a street value estimated at $270,000.

Police released information about the case May 24.

During the Virginia investigation, the statement said, it was revealed that Durham was out on bond for a similar offense that occurred in New Jersey approximately one week prior to his arrest in Stafford County.

Jail records showed Durham remained behind bars Tuesday, charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic. He was beind held without bond.
