Brick Man, 21, Indicted on Vehicular Homicide Charge

Charge stems from December 2010 accident

A 21-year-old Brick Township man is facing a vehicular homicide charge in an indictment voted by an Ocean County grand jury.

Craig L. Chick Jr., of Burnt Bridge Avenue, is accused of driving his 2002 Red Volkswagen Jetta recklessly on Dec. 9, causing the car to hit a tree and kill his passenger, Christopher Gribble of Howell. Authorities have said Chick was drunk when the accident occurred.

Chick is also accused of causing Gribble’s death while driving with a suspended license.

Police said Chick’s car slammed into a tree at Burnt Tavern Road and Maple Avenue at about 1:40 a.m. Gribble died at Ocean Medical Center of injuries he sustained in the crash.

Chick is free on $150,000 bail with a condition that he not contact with the victim’s family.

Other recent indictments include:

  • Thomas M. Larkin, 41, of Malmy Drive, Brick, accusing him of having heroine and cocaine there on March 22.
  • Robert C. Meloni, 46, of Greenview Way, Toms River, accused of breaking into a house in Manchester on Jan. 9 and stealing jewelry, two burglaries  in Brick on Jan. 11 in which jewelry were taken, and stealing jewelry after breaking into a Toms River home on Jan. 13.
