Brick First Responders Aid in Two Water Incidents
No injuries in either incident over the weekend
Brick police and fire companies responded to two incidents on the water over the past weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, the township's dive team was called out when a kayak carrying two people flipped over in the Metedeconk River off Pinehurst Road, said Kevin Batzel, chief of Brick Fire Safety.
"They flipped over in their kyak, and the kayak got caught in the wind and floated away," said Batzel.
Police officers arrived on the scene first and were able to commandeer a boat and rescue the two people, who were not injured.
Then, on Saturday night, a missing person in a jet-ski led to a response from four local fire companies, including marine units from Brick Fire districts one and two, plus the Silverton and Ocean Beach fire companies in Toms River as well as state police.
Parents had been waiting for their son to arrive back home in a jet-ski off the Shore Acres neighborhood and called police when he did not return on time, Batzel said.
"It happened right around dusk, and they were out there for about two hours," said Batzel.
The search eventually ended when the jet-skier was towed to the Lavallette Yacht Club y another boater after it broke down in the bay, Batzel said. The rescuers had been searching the area in between Shore Acres and Bayview Park, on opposite sides of the bay.
