Brick Begins Treating Roads in Anticipation of Icy Weather

Brick Township Public Works Crews will begin treating roads this afternoon in anticipation of quickly dropping temperatures and the potential for icy conditions.

Trucks spreading brine solution and road salt will canvas local roads after 2:30 p.m., after the afternoon rain stopped. Hail began to fall around 2 p.m. in Brick.

Brick Township warned residents on its official site: "Roads are expected to be very hazardous due to the severe cold temperatures tonight. Please be very careful everyone."

Temperatures in the teens and single digits are forecast for the area. The Ocean County Sheriff's Department warned that there is a wind advisory from now until 6 p.m. Tuesday night. "Please dress warm over the next 24 hours along with securing any objects on the outside of your home," announced the county sheriff's office in a prepared release.

Local activists supporting Tent City, a clearing in the woods of Lakewood where many homeless congregate, are collecting firewood for the site and monitoring occupants as the temperatures reach dangerously cold levels.

The Ocean County Health Department provides on its website, here, a section on severe winter weather with health and safety tips for roads, home, and outdoor activity. Read all the safety tips here.
